Sadly, that is pretty standard with all of the appeals they get.

Yup, should be trial and execution within a month. That gets rid of the nasty problem of new evidence coming forth. Death means never having to say you're sorry.

I think there should be a Heinous Crime Act, where if someone is widely witnessed doing something atrocious like a mass shooting, their trial and sentence is expedited to be finished in under a year.

It would have to be a Heinous Crime Amendment. Currently the standard of appeals is set by the Supreme Court and it would take an amendment to change them.

This is also why life without parole actually costs the system less than the death penalty.

That or expediting it when they plead guilty and know that the penalty can be death. Even if they aren't truthfully confessing might as well give them what they want.

For Good Friday, let's kill someone on death row and move another to general population. To be determined by popular vote. That would remove 2 people from death row each year and make both sides happy or sad, depending on if they are an optimist or pessimist.

Apparently. I believe some people deserve to die for their crimes but that the government should not be entrusted with that power because it is imperfect and prone to corruption. I'm content with them being removed from society. And since it seems to cost more to execute them than lock them up for life by some accounts executions are not even more efficient.

No, some of us aren't for a death penalty. I personally think it is a relic of a more brutal era that has no use or benefit in modern society.

There should be a 1 year cap in place from the time of sentencing. Let the appeals take priority over everything else to streamline and get them in and out. Mind you, I'm only pro-death penalty in cases with certainty (which a surprising percentage are actually).

No, but the same system that rushes to execute that shooter might be used to execute some other innocent person.
