? An economical Ethernet card???

2 years ago I bought some cheap ($10) PCI 10/100 NICs they work great. I would not spend a bit over $10 for a NIC. I think Fry's was selling them for like $8.00, you pay to much for brand names.

There are many generic cards that work fine. If you open the package - look closely at the chipset on the card itself: If you see a little "crab" logo, then you have a Taiwan-made Realtek chipset - it is a pretty high quality, well supported chipset that will give you trouble-free service. I've bought dozens of these cards and haven't had a single problem with them yet.

I like SMC EZ-NET 10/100, around $10.

RTL8139 (Realtek) PCI works fine for me. (seems like they also update their driver quite often) It also support Windows, Unix, Novell, Dos.


You can pick one up at your local CompUSA store as CompUSA brand for $14.95.
