AIM Pro ROCKS. No ads, "lite" (streamlined) interface with an actually useful radio feature that allows you to listen to XM stations (Indietronica's my favorite). Also features encryption and is 100% vista compatible. It's meant for corporate IM use but it's my favorite, no nonsense AIM client by far.

Other features include desktop sharing, video chat that's supposedly corporate quality, and a file transfer that has worked fine so far on larger files.

Good stuff!

Active Virus Shield is by far the best free virus scanner out there. So that's two products. Doesn't install any bloatware either (YET. There is a concern the TOS for it allows them to install crap later but it's never happened)

Snippet from review:
Another cool new addition is the ability to use your email address as your screen name. The account creation page for email-based screen names can be found here. After creating an email-based screen name you can use it with AIM Pro or the regular AIM client. Your friends can add your email address to their buddy lists as they normally would with your screen name. Unfortunately, since AIM 5.9 auto-links email addresses to make the clickable, your email address will be a link in every IM you send. See the picture below. The client is completely free for now but don?t be surprised if they charge larger enterprise users in the future. As for the overall impression - AOL made something simpler and more usable? finally!

I'll check that out.

Here's a picture of my taskmanager - only AIM service running is AIM Pro and the media player, since I'm listening to the radio now.

I must stress, the radio is AWESOME - better selection that iTunes including commercial quality stations (XM)

Only because it's the same as Kaspersky.

I use it when I video chat because trillian is a bitch about it--it's the only AOL product I know of that doesn't screw over your computer.

AIM was alright up until Triton. They started adding some suck in 4 and 5, but it didn't really start to suck until Triton.

and the radio feature is really, reallly good - been listening to it for about 2 hours straight and discovered quite a few new bands because of it...

I know people will consider that bloatware but i only takes up like 4mb of ram.

I use AIM Pro on all my PC's and I'm loving it. Best part is we run an IM proxy appliance that logs IM's and when talking to other people running AIM Pro (encrypted if between AIM Pro clients) all I see is garbage when checking the logs on the proxy device so I'm in the clear ;)
