An Acura at 13,000rpms =

Well, story about it is in a previous thread, the one linked to is mostly inline pictures.

story of how he did it here: http://www.sportsnimports.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17409

" was coming home from pizza hut just cruzin and I downshifted and hit second and kaboom there went my engine. Smoke started pouring out and I could hear peices of my engine falling out. I pulled over and the exhaust manifold was on fire from the oil that sprayed on it. Well anyway long story short I have to call walker Acura tomorrow and get into it with them. I'm going to have to put my stock airbox back on, it'll give them less to ***** about. Anyone else been trough a fight with the dealership?"

edit:

from the linked to thread:

...
The engine is sooooo much worse than we thought. Seriously! We thought it would be a broken rod, maybe a few bent valves in the head. Bent valves, broken valves, just plain missing valves, the head is all marred up. I didn't pull the head off I just looked up the cyl from the bottom. At first we thought the pistons were just gone then we found 3 balls that must be the pistons. I'm going to pull the head off monday and check it out.

apparently he is trying to get the dealer to replace it under warranty but the ECU records his shift points....

Oops! Bet that wasn't covered under warranty.
I'm not going to register either. Is this the one with the idiot who wound-out 3rd and and grabbed 2nd instead of 4th? Nothing like dropping it into 2nd at ~90mph to blow that engine up!

so dude downshifts, overrevs the motor and is gonna claim it was defect?

He might, if he's lucky. But it's obviously his fault.

Yeah good luck to him getting them to replace that for him. I think they'll be able to tell what he did to it. Anyway what kind of total newb misses a gear like that? 2nd instead of 4th? What's next 1st instead of 3rd? Sadness.

It's actually a known "problem" with the tranny.. It's quite easy to slam it into 2nd instead of 4th..

He said he went to second, obviously a mistake at 13,000 rpm's. But you'd have to be going pretty damm fast in third previously for it to kick up that high, I would think.

It's not so much a "problem" as that Honda went too far with the whole short-throw shifter concept for the general populace. Gears are so close together that slam-shifting newbs are hitting the wrongs ones.
