It becomes your way of life if you get into fully.

Sucks you in like a cult.

:frown:

Personally, I can't understand how in this day and age of e-commerce and deal sites and whatnot that Quixtar is even able to be a viable company.

Oh yeah, don't forget 2by2.net

This girl my friend knows ... she was SO successful that she bought herself a Viper while she was a senior in college. Dropped out on her last quarter at the school and now she had her car impounded and she's in debt.

I'm pretty sure the people in Quixtar are really the only ones buying their products, since they get their "discount" of a few pennies off retail, and that's how they make their money, even though other sites sell the same product for much less.

Lol I had a friend and my sister mention and try to get me in that...

It's a pyramid or ponzi scheme. The only people getting rich are those that thought it up.

In the South, they try to mix Amway with religion. Makes it a god given right to make the bucks. Sad, sad, sad. I've had friends that got sucked into this when the economy started to tank three years ago here. Now, they moved into those apt communities with more of the same people. They won't have anything to do with the old crowd and now go to one of those "churches" that embraces the Amway philosophy (*cough* Vineland *cough*).

And they lurk around the strip malls and WalMarts. Creepy, creepy, creepy.

Very true, my ex-grandparents were big church and amway people, they'd get recruiting at churches....

They made a ton of cash since they owned a commerical laundry and would get the supplies through amway.

They kept trying to get me into it and got pissed when I said if it's so good, pay my way in and I will pay you back with my first check that's going to be so huge.

These systems do work, just not by selling product....recruiting is the method.

It's Multi-Level Marketing. With the products that you sell, many people above you will also get a cut from the "sale" of the item or items. Actually, Amway's management doesn't care if you sell the products or not. Amway make big $$$ off of the salepeople who buy their tapes and other "motivational" literature. You pay them over $20 for a tape that costs 50-cents to produce. As a salesperson, you are told that in order to be very successful in their sales, you need the motivational materials. :(

Note: I've never participated in an MLM. But, I've heard plenty of pitches and heard from people who who have been burned by them before.

Oh, if anyone is considering getting connected with an MLM, please check this site out and read up on those companies that you are considering. Plenty of good information on MLMs -- and how screwed-up they are at this site: MLM Survivor Site

bah. my somewhat innocent gf (several years back) bought in to quixstar. Within five minutes of relating the joyous news about her forthcoming wealth, she was on the phone cancelling her $100.00 kit and promotional materials. I think these schemes are completely unethical.

there have been people that have made considerable money selling amway or any other MLM product.

They key to determaining if they are truely a scam is if the majority of your income is derived from recruiting new people.

If you get more from getting people to sign up then it is a scam. I am not "anti MLM" but I am hesitant to buy from one.

Maybe so, but it doesn't make it right. The people that made money - made it by recruiting many people to sell the actual goods. The person who did the recruiting made the money not by actual sales, but by recruiting people.
