So many Amtrak threads lately, I figured I would post mine. I'm currently traveling 127 mph (fastest the regional can go is 124, so it's speeding) on the Northeast Corridor heading to Boston South. Acela tops out at about 150 in this same corridor for those interested in the differences. I've had five beers, and I'm really enjoying neffing from the train.

Don't ever get off. According to Albert E., you'll age slower.

Ease up on the beer before you have to drive to your destination. Where are you living now anyway? And how much is a ticket from NJ to Boston on the train you're taking? I looked at the Acela and the prices didn't seem much better than flying.

They're really not. I was talking to my new roommate and she was saying that a round-trip ticket from Philly to D.C. is about $150. Kind of high IMO.

I went to DC and back via amtrack for $100.

You can find coupons online.

And it's better than flying because you don't have to go through security. And then there's the whole being 5 miles in the air thing.

Agreed.

My tickets from New Jersey to Boston are regularly less than $100 round trip.

Mugs: I'm living in Boston. And I don't have to drive to any destination - train brings me right downtown and I take the subway home 🙂

I take DC to Philly regularly. Usually $70 each way. Very comfortable, always on time, and you can get there right at the gate time and still get on.

I look forward to riding Amtrak, its the best way to get any place in the northeast. If they could find a way to get some high speed rail going cross-country, I'd never fly again.
