Amtrak Wreck

Sounds like NY MetroNorth wreck where engineer fell asleep and went into turn at double speed. Between obese, diabetic workers who cant' focus/stay-awake and affirmative action token promotions its no wonder things run so shabby (include McDonalds, Post Office etc in all that too)
 
Oh no.... Not getting away with this. I.e. the politicians, that is.
All republicans had to do is "fast track" the safety updates for rail systems such as this Amtrak that derailed, and this disaster would never have happened.
People are human and not perfect.
While we can blame the guy at the wheel, shit happens.
It happens all the time.
That is why we fund and add simple safety features to avoid such tragedy.
But NOOOOOO. Republicans want to delay the funding needed to make our rail system safer.

Republicans get all upset over ISIS and terrorist and toss countless taxpayer dollars at unfounded hints of terrorist light years away.
But more Americans will die and have died from our own failures of infrastructure upkeep and infrastructure update than ever will die from terrorist.

Just a few dollars and some technology can save hundreds, thousands from harm and death. Saved simply by politicians spending the money.
Democrats in congress wanted the funding and support the infrastructure upgrade.
Republicans do not.
Why in the hell do we continue to vote these scum bags back into office?
Are we totally F-ing insane?

Are you seriously this fucking stupid? The train was going over twice the safe speed. It wrecked because of that. This is not another, government "step in and save us from ourselves moment". Why would the train be traveling over 100 miles per hour in a 50-mile-per-hour zone? We don't know yet. What we do know is that Amtrak has a technology solution at hand that would make this impossible. It's called the Advanced Civil Speed Enforcement System (ACSES) and it's a species of what's known as Positive Train Control (PTC) technology. ACSES uses wireless communications and transponders located in tracks to make sure that trains automatically abide by location-specific speed restrictions regardless of any possible human error.

By congressional mandate, PTC is supposed to be installed throughout the Northeast Corridor by the end of 2015, but it hasn't yet been installed in the Philadelphia area. Many stretches of freight and commuter rail track, meanwhile, seem to have fallen far behind the 2015 deadline — an issue addressed by a bill Senators Chuck Schumer and Richard Blumenthal introduced just a few weeks ago.

So yes, chronic underinvestment and congressional mismanagement has led to a poorly run rail system with outdated technology. Now 7 people are dead in an accident that would not have happened in a modern rail system.

From what I've heard, that curve is 11 minutes outside of the station. I guess he could have fallen asleep but that seems kind of early in the trip to do so.

Just wondering how soon wrecks like these will become justification for AI taking over a task like being the engineer on a train. Just a matter of time before it's called for I imagine.
