How much is the Samsung 7nm EUV process expected to provide in terms of gains?
How will the RTX components be scaled/developed?
Any major architectural enhancements expected?
Will VRAM be bumped to 16/12/12 for the top three?
Will there be further fragmentation in the lineup? (Keeping turing at cheaper prices, while offering 'beefed up RTX' options at the top?)
Will the top card be capable of >4K60, at least 90?
Would Nvidia ever consider an HBM implementation in the gaming lineup?
Will Nvidia introduce new proprietary technologies again?

Sorry if imprudent/uncalled for, just interested in the forum member's thoughts.

Without the power efficiency though

I always buy performance. OEMs might care a little bit about efficiency.

I had two 7990's in Xfire. Not the most efficient would you say? Performance.

I had 3x 290's in Tri-fire as well. Performance.

With that said I'm just gonna grab a 3080. I just don't game enough anymore to go ultra high-end this time.

Very very impressive, I don't remember such a large increase of gpu power gen on gen from any gpu company ever. But maybe I'm wrong.
Pascal was probably better, but they didn't go all out with TDP like they did with Ampere.

And it wowed everyone at the time. Pascal versus Maxwell was a nice increase. Looks like Nvidia did it again.

Haha, right.

GTX 980 TDP ~ 165W
GTX 1080 TDP ~ 180W

If we had the perf uplift at equivalent watts it would be as impressive. 15 watts is a wash - 125+? That's like bolting an entire extra GTX 980 on.

Adding to the power budget massively to hit the same ratio? Less impressive.

(which is not to say that I am still pleased at the "performance"/price point $500 3070)

I was just re-reading that for power numbers and wow, the GTX 980 was pretty much a beast - quite, cool, fast. Lowest power consumption, highest performance.

Do we have 20GB and 16GB cards incoming soon?

A 3080Ti 20GB to fit under the 3090 would be nice

That seems like it would quite undercut the reason of the 3090 existing.

Also, it seems like if there is anything to add supply constraints outside of the usual COVID junk, the non-standard GRDD6x stands out as a component with finite supply. It seems like Samsung has plenty of GPU bandwidth.

If the 3090 is out of budget, you can buy the 3080 now. Then, next year when the 3080 Ti is released at the 3080 price point or slightly above it, you can buy that too.

You don't think 10GB on a 3080 would be that limiting into the future?

Except the PS5 GPU with 36CUs at “up to” 2.23Ghz with 135W power consumption beats the 2070S quite easily.

People are going to be shocked when AMD does the reveal.
One is a console gpu and the other is a desktop gpu so I don't know how could they be compared(tested). BTW when is AMD going to show something?

Good question. No reason form them to be cagey now anymore. Release the Kraken!

Oh, I think it might really be regrettable in a couple of years, certainly.

But looking at the 3080 against the 3090, the performance uplift isn't likely to be that great, you don't get any exclusive features and the price is double. What is it you really get? A truly future proof 24GB frame buffer and knowing that you are going to have the top nvidia card for a year plus.

(I expect given the same 12 pin connector for both, we'll see 3080's with the same TDP as the 3090 narrowing the performance gap. We'll see :) )

3080 looks good.Probably best card in whole stack.70-80% faster than 2080 non super at same price. Thanks to transition from middle 104die to BIG 102die.Also more vram and 320bit.
3070 is not that good.Only 50-60% faster than 2070 non super and still only 8Gb Vram and 256bit.It is still middle 104die.Should be priced at 399.
3080 actually have better price/performance than 3070 this time.
3080 have +50% more SP, 320bit and more Vram and it cost only 40% more.

Like with the 2080Ti, if it is the top card for 2 years, the deal will be quite a lot better. Nobody knows that at this point though.

They are claiming 1.9x perf/watt, so they just chose to push performance on the top end. I wouldn't be surprised if we see some nice high end mobile GPUs out of Ampere.

1,9x its measured at 60fps, at top performance the perf/watt is 37% higher.

And if it is like 1080ti, that is still serving a ton of people, it will be even better deal. If anything i expect future games to support DLSS upscaling to help extend lifetime at the cost of some image quality.

Without a doubt it is. I’ve been going for Titans and then I went 2080ti last time. This time I cannot justify that ridiculous price jump from 3080 to 3090. In theory 20% faster is a lot but this 3090 is the new Titan when you look at pricing.

A 3080ti will certainly come out for those who wait. That $899-999 segment needs something to split the difference.

So looking at it from both sides the 3080 is so performant at its price that one could easily use it as a stop gap until the 3080ti or seriously if at 1440p why bother with more performance.
