is there any truth to it? i am not sure how serious this guy is about doing 3dmax, he hasnt gotten into it yet. someone 'knoledgeable' around him has told him extra 128mb makes a huge different, and i find that hard to believe. i was about to get him that 6800 oc deal at BB, but now hes asking me how much ram it has.. what should i tell him? screw your friend and go with 128mb?

It "could" definately make a difference depending on what you are working on(modeling, texturing), however, 128MB should be more than fine for someone starting out in 3dsmax.

My personal opinion is that beginners fare better in the long run if they begin on an underpowered rig anyway. You learn much faster when mistakes penalize you severely 🙂
