Rushing this more importantly it gives the public virtually no time whatsoever to react to any of it taking us right out of the loop.

Personally I think Reid should be tried for treason and when found guilty either executed or exiled from this country.

Executed??!! Come on now. . .don't you think that's a bit extreme? I think you should change your name to Sociopath.

You turn your back on the citizens of the US, the sovereignty of the US and the future of the US to push multinational corporation?s agenda for what can be no other reason than some form of personnel gain it amounts to treason. The last I looked the penalty for treason is death!

They keep saying that the american people want something to be done, but I don't know of anybody at work that is dying to get this passed.

They are probably right on one point--Americans do want something to be done--but not what Congress wants to do. Congress wants to sell out the interests and well being of the American people by offering amnesty and eventual citizenship to millions of illegal aliens. In contrast, the American people want Congress to deport all of the illegal aliens and build a fence along the Mexican border to keep them out.

Congress is right--the American people want something to get done--only it's the opposite of what they're planning to do. Hopefully they'll feel it at the ballot box.

They are working to counter the backlash the senators heard from Republicans who booed Mr. Chambliss at the party's state convention last month and from grass-roots activists who have flooded the senators' offices with calls.

Maybe these two will learn, the people put Chambliss and Issakson into office, NOT CORPORATIONS.

They certainly got an earful and an e-mailful ... hence they are scared. Both parties are pushing this tripe on us because of their corporate ties (yes both parties) but the major problem they ran into is that people found out. Talk-Radio, newspaper editorials, and blogs, eviscerated the sell outs in Congress. Only those Senators and Reps immune are leading the fight (immune meaning they could kill someone and stay in office - iow Kennedy)

What's kind of funny is that people still call this an "amnesty" bill. You just don't have any clue what the definition of amnesty is, or haven't read this bill at all, if you honestly believe this is an amnesty bill. Or maybe you're Lou Dobbs?

I think we all know what an "amnesty bill" means in the context of the immigration issue.

Calling it an amnesty bill seems pretty accurate.

have YOU even read it? apparently not.

Oh yeah, they have to pay fines and 5K... sounds like a good deal to me.

Wonder how long it will take before they complain and protest about how unfair that is.

How many will even pay? Hell, I wouldn't. What are they going to do, deport them?

Except that's not true. Americans do want better border security, but about two thirds favor one version of amnesty or another.

I don't believe it. If that were true then this probably would have been over and done with months ago. Perhaps the poll you looked at had a poorly phrased, misleading question?

Illegals that get here and stay here are do not dig under a fence or climb over it. That is a huge lie and mislead. They come across in cars and on planes, with false ID. Smuggling illegals is big business, drawing some $1000 a head. Why do you think so many illegals working here now send all their $$$ back to Mexico? To get the papers and pay for transporting their family and friends across. Only the very poor actually run across or climb a fence, and they dont get very far.

If the voters dont, again, suffer drain damage in the 2008 election, things are ripe for a third party new comer to win in 2008. If the voters dont forget June 2007 on Nov 2008, the democrats AND republicans in congress are doomed if they support this bill.

The people want two things and two thing NOW...
The war to end...period, and this bill to die.

It's not accurate, because "amnesty" (in the form of U.S. legislation) would mean a one time pardon; i.e. immigrants are granted immediate citizenship and pay no penalty for their illegal activity. This bill does no such thing; immigrants still have to wait at least a decade to become citizens, and pay thousands of dollars in fines, in addition to deportation in a lot of cases.

Amnesty might mean immediate citizenship to you. But if you come in here illegally, and this bill allows you to stay legally (Z visa or whatever), that's amnesty in my book bro. That and $5K get you citizenship from what I understand.

It also stikes me that this bill rewards those came illegally. The same immediate legal immigrant staus is not awarded those are legally still waiting in line.

Look if you wanna call this bill the "Reward illegal immigrants with immediate legal status and sell citizenship for $5K Act of 2007" it's OK wth me.

Nobody's fooling anybody IMO. Washington DC realizes we have an illegal immigrant problem, what's the solution? Well h3ll, let's just make them all LEGAL. Look everybody! No more illegals! Problem solved!

Looks like big business has influenced the bill even more;

Senate `Killer' Amendments Threaten Immigration

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said that one amendment would gut the system for companies to verify that employees are legally eligible to work in the U.S.

This would allow them too freely and knowingly hire illegal?s with little or no repercussions. You can't read this and tell me that big business does not have many of our officials in their pockets.

I just wish we could get an official list of the businesses supporting this crap so we boycott and break the backs of the a-hole companies.
