I've always wondered who are these people who _forget_ to pay their credit card bills, and I guess you're "that guy" 😉Your interest rate on the card was around 50%?I received a statement for about $11,000 . . . I had already sold all the computers on ebay- so I had plenty of money in my bank account, but just under $11,000. So I paid off about $10,500 of it . . . and figured that I would only be charged interest on the remaining $500 . . . WRONG. Important lesson y'all: if you don't pay off your credit card in full, down to the last penny- you'll be charged interest for the full amount. So the next month's bill, I received my statement, with an interest charge for $450!

for amex charge cards, the balance is due in full each month and not allowed to carry a balance with few exceptions. if you don't pay in full, there is a heavy penalty, i forgot the exact terms of it.

Why is it hard to believe that a 20 year old has a $2000 balance? I'm 23 and jobless and I have a $4000 balance... of course I have 0% APR and somehow manage to pay the minimum payment every month. 😀 A job will come soon though so I'm not worried... especially with 0% APR for 11 more months. 😉

I work in the financial information processing industry.
I am frequently exposed to vast quantities of client financial information which if used properly would result in plenty of securites industry violations.
I lost the goddamn statement and I'm now 31 days overdue and I've got $55 in late/finance charges.

You work with some of the most sensitive information in the country, huh? The later in another post you say its financial information... that's not exactly 'sensitive' information since most creditors can access the same information about a person that you're alluding to knowing or should I say... being 'privvy' to. I'm willing to bet that I'm not the only person here at AnandTech Forums who is in the military and holds a secret or higher clearance... Your 'most sensitive information in the country' boils down to not too difficult to access to be perfectly honestly. Let's not overstate our importance okay? I doubt your background investigation lasted longer than a month, if they even bothered to do one on you...

That's definitely want I want to hear from someone who has access to 'some of the most sensitive information in the country'. I can damn sure sleep more soundly tonight...

I cant disclose specifics due to my Non-Disclosure agreement but I work in the financial information processing industry.

Amex has internet billing & freaking awesome phone support, someone with your experience with security/finances would be able to handle online billing statements.
Perhaps the OP could change the title of the thread to:
"I owned me on an internet forum pretending to be a grown up."
