Amex Financial Advisor

I heard from a friend that it's cold-calling 24 7 about a year ago.

Some manager contacted me and told me it wasn't cold-calling anymore. Is this true?

I'm trying to decide if calling him back for is even worth my time.

He's told me a 'typical' successful story where he was an advisor himself 4 yrs ago and now he's a district manager... I don't want to take the job with just his words...

Anyone want to enlighten me with some real details?

just curious...what are your credentials? I have a friend whose bro is one....he makes really good money...(and not by cold-calling either)

MY credentials? Graduating with BSBA/double maj. in Management and Marketing

It's the opposite for me. You don't even need a degree to get this job.

interesting...I've always heard that a Financial Advisor position was very respectable, and would get paid as such. Well my friend's bro has since been promoted and is now the VP of his dept. I guess that is just one success story.

A friend of mine graduated with a finance degree and started working for AMEX Financial Advisors while working towards her Series 7. As an entry level person, most of her income depended on commissions, and with the clientele she had access to, that meant selling high fee packages to seniors and other folks who probably don't know better. She wasn't comfortable with that from an ethical standpoint, so she quit.

The title itself is very broad but Amex FA or any other entry level ones that doesn't even require a degree = crap

I know some guy that graduated, went to go work at AMEX as a financial advisor.. and he hated it, so he's back in school only after a year later (grad school for something.. not sure what)

AMEX here hires college kids to set appointments (cold call) and then the advisors follow up.
