If I buy from a B&M store, can I price match w/ Amex to an online store?

Also if there's a mail in rebate on the item, will Amex consider that in your purchase price? Can they find out about mail in rebates?

I have matched prices to online stores before. I would buy something at Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.. Then match to the cheapest online store I could find. But I heard that AMEX will no longer take the print out of the webpage as proof of the lower price. I don't know if it is true or not, you might have to call them to find out.

No I'm only an AT'er.
So the FW people know more about deals than AT'ers??! :)

Kidding RossMan. Thanks for the link. Didn't you post the DC290 deal a year or 2 ago? Or the Toshiba DVD player? Whichever it was (if any), thanks. I got both.

The majority of the FWers started out on AT but defected (remember the whole Staples/AT fiasco and the banning of all coupon codes?) or in my case are members of both forums.

Yeah I posted a deal on the Toshiba SD2109 DVD Player about a year ago, great player. I think the SD1700 is the same model and can usually be found on sale for $139.99 at Best Buy B&M or online.

So did you read that FW thread about Amex cards?

Slikone,
AmexBlue only compares the final purchase price of the item you are trying to PM. They don't include tax, shipping, or MIR's (they do include store coupons because they affect the purchase price shown on the receipt).

Here's an example. If item X is advertised at a B&M for $100 and you buy it there, then your total cost would be around $105 - $110 depending on your states tax. If you then do some searching and find this item online for $80, contact AmexBlue with the information and they will give you a check for $20 (so long as you bought item X w/ the AmexBlue card). They will still give you that $20 check even if item X came with a $100 MIR because that rebate does not affect the advertised purchase price.

My advice on this issue has always been to shop online for the items you want. Look for places that include free shipping and no tax (don't worry about the actual item cost yet). Purchase the items w/ the AmexBlue card then search around for the absolute lowest advertised price on the items you've purchased (you have 60 days to wait for prices to fall). Send the info to Amex and viola, you just got the lowest possible price without paying tax or shipping. And the deal gets better if you can find items w/ MIR's.

Happy shopping.

One more thing, does your $1000 max rebates per year start over on Jan 1st?

Also just making sure, the $250 max is per item, not per order, right?

RossMan, if your still following this, I read that FW thread. Was mainly about the different types of Amex cards.

AMEX BVG pretty much bases its price match decision on your final payment charged on your card minus the amount payed for shipping and tax. So it solely depends on the charge that appears on your account. And to answer your first question, the store doesn't matter so long as it is a retail store with exact product in stock and for a cheaper price. The shipping and tax charges from either stores (i.e., you store of purchase and the competitor's) isn't at all considered. I do not believe MIR is included 'cuz then MIRs don't appear on monthly statements. They depend solely on charges on your monthly statement to verify or deny your claim.

Pretty much what PullMyFinger said is what I too would suggest you do. :)

I don't see it on their website but I thought I saw in the printed materials that came with the card that they will not price match if you bought from a store that itself has a low price guarantee. Has anyone run into this problem?

another Q for the blue cardholders, does the item need to be in-stock for the Price Guarantee to work? For example, the product's web page has real time inventory and shows none in stock. TIA

Good question...

also, I'd like to know:

1) has anyone had success PM'ing retail box to OEM? (I'm pretty sure policy says no refurb...but just checkin)

2) I thought I had a second question....guess reading all these threads answered it :)

If some kind experienced soul could post a summary of "amex blue do's and don'ts," it would probably clean up all these threads. ;)
