amex blue PM alternatives? once it expires?

For people who were able to go to the Optima, few questions for you:
How was the prodess. what was your credit limit, how long had you been with Amex, and any other credit info/advice to do this.
Thanks.

Buyers assurance. Sign up for a free trial through mypoints and they'll give you about 250 points. Paperwork is confusing and cumbersom, so I can't actually vouch for the PMing, but it was a 100% free 3 month trial.

I just applied for the optima platinum and the first thing they sent me was something about the bvg. But, if you want to see it on their website. Optima Platinum Benefits
By the way, they gave me a higher credit limit than my blue. I had only been with amex for a little over a year. Buyer's Assurance is a warranty extension. It is also a free benefit with this card.

Filled out an application :Q

>>>what was your credit limit<<<

$47.00

>>>how long had you been with Amex<<<

>>>I'm just curious as to what people's limits are when they qualify for the platinum.<<<

Curious is just another way of saying nosy, nosy :Q :Q

Haven't you guys heard that even if they do keep the BVG with a pay per year deal that the fine print is gonna be totally re-worked? Somehow I expect American Express learned their lesson with this grand PM'ing experiment...

When I called about my StarWood Platinum card and the changes to the BVG, they said the big differences for me is that I can only price match once and if I return an item and I already got a check from Amex, I must return the money.

Thinking about PM one item from ComPUSA, they have the price ' after savings, price break and rebate', Do AMEX PM include the mnf rebate? (though on the compUSA printout, it doesn't say about Mfg rebate). Anyone has the experience. ThanX.

I spoke with a CSR with AMEX two days ago and asked her if the BVG would remain on the Optima Platinum card. She said that as far as she knew, the service would continue on the card, but with an asterick. She said that she wasnt informed about the removal of the BVG on the Blue card until a month before everyone here found out. So, BVG isnt coming off of the Optima Platinum.....yet.

Before Amex Blue expires, I gonna use it to buy a digital camera. But I dont know how to PM it. Is there anyone able to tell me the procedure? appreciated!

FYI

Have word with AMEX CSR the other day regardoing BVG, I have been told that Blue's BVG expires this month, and the Optima's BVG expires May 31.

I did ask CSR what are the cards that will still have BVG, CSR told me that most of card that have yearly fee will still have BVG.

It was my understanding that the Optima was going to keep its guarantee, this is no longer true?

As MajinWade said, Buyer Assurance offers you Best Value Garuntee on any credit card, although many have said its not as good as Blue

I got the Blue card because of the price match feature, so now I will cancel it.
It's the only way the company will understand how the public feels about
changing the deal! There were places that wouldn't take Amex anyway, and
I had to use Visa. Piss on them.

Just got my Optima Platinum and read the Agreement booklet. Not a word was written about BVG! I called AMEX and asked why there was no mention of BVG in the cardholder's Agreement and they told me that the BVG benefit on Optima Platinum WILL end on May 31, 2002. 🙁

PS: Although they could not provide me with a list of their cards that will continue to have a BVG benefit -- strange --, they did seem quite sure that it will only be available on what they call "charge cards" -- not "credit cards" -- and that all those cards charge an annual fee.

That's funny about the Optima becuase I spent a lot of time ont he phone with different people at AMEX and most of them told me that the Optima WASN'T going to drop the BVG and that was the card to get. As a matter of a fact most of the people were pushing me to just apply for the card right then even though I already told them I wasn't getting it until I was convinced that the program was going to be available. There was only 1 person I talked to today at AMEX that admitted she wasn't sure if the BVG program was going to be available on that card anymore. The did tell me that the regular AMEX gold card ($65 per year fee) would have the program. It seems kind of funny I have to pay that to have the BVG and you also can't carry a balance with that card either. 🙁 I guess I will call in again tomorrow and talk to the Optima people directly and see what they tell me. 🙂
