AMEX and Wal Mart

For the last month or so, when I go to Walmart and pay for something with my AMEX blue card, at the checkout machine it asks for my zip code. This caught me by surprise. Anyone else get this?

The guy at the rental counter said it was something new and something implemented by AMEX. I havent had that happen at any other store. Not sure why it asks me for my zip code at Wal Mart. 😕
 
Asking for your zip is cheaper for them then having to input your cid number into there register.
 
No, it is a security measure from AMEX.

I am glad they are doing this. I had my AMEX stolen last year ... and they spent a thousand dollars guess where? Walmart.

I give them a big :beer: for doing that.
 
Its great that they're doing it, but it surprises me that only Walmart does this. I figured if this was something that AMEX instituted, it would be done everywhere, thats all.

Wow, I wonder why? Visa and MC charge lower percentages. There's no CostCo near me in Ann Arbor, so I'm curious - do they even have a CostCo store credit card?
