Well this may be regional but i'm not sure, If your a current ameritech dsl subscriber on month to month you can switch to a one year contract at 29.99 a month. This current special runs until the end of the month. While ameritech may not be the best dsl out there for those of us stuck with ameritech as our only option this is a great deal. It saves 20 a month over a month to month contract. Hope this helps someone out there.

If you start new Ameritech phone service (I moved Sunday), you can get this rate without a one year contract. My dsl equipment arrived yesterday and I can't wait to try out the service..

I have Ameritech DSL and haven't had any problems with them. Good speed, hasn't been down ever for me. And $30/month...that's a SWEET deal.

AOhell is $23.95 for MODEM speed...and you'd probably want another phone line...DSL won't tie up the line and for ~ $6 you get comparatively blazing speeds!!

I had Ameritech for 1 Year 6 Months, During the last 6 Months I dont remember them being down but when AT&T Rolled into the Irving Park area I couldnt Resist because Ameritechs price was $50 & AT&Ts was $45. Recently AT&T Upped the upload so I upload @ 30/k now so that is a +. Not a bad deal though.

It's 768/128. It's available to anyone in Ameritech's service area. I just got it in Toledo, OH (just turned on today ;) ).

I'm curious about a couple of things that you may have answers to.

1) Where is the offer listed? (Where'd you find it? Did it come in the mail or attached to a bill?)
2) How do I go about switching to a year-long contract. (I know it isn't your job to answer contract questions and such, I just thought you might be knowledgeable on the subject.)

Thanks for the post. Hopefully I'll be saving mucho dinero thanks to you.

So after 1 year will Ameritech make you subscribe at the original $50 rate? Or can you extend the contract for another year at $30 a month.

I believe the deal is an "unpublicized" offer, which was originally offered to small businesses. You have to call their DSL Ph# and ask for it. (don't have that number handy). I haven't heard that you had to be a new customer for the deal...but that could be in the fine print.

As for someone else's question, after a year, you could say you're switching, unless they extended the deal..and BAM, they will generally extend or at the very least match another DSL provider.

There was a half page ad in the sports section of the Sunday June 10 Chicago Tribune. It had the $29.99 DSL offer and a phone package offer with a special 800 number to call for ordering (which I don't recall). The sales rep was friendly and knowledgeable. He even analyzed my current phone rates with the new offer and figured out that I was ok with what I have.

I did sign up for the DSL deal. In about a week they mailed me a box with the software, DSL modem, a bunch of phone jack filters, a 10/100 PCI NIC, and all necassary cables. The turnaround time for the DSL line to be activated is about 2-3 weeks. I think this is a fantastic deal. Probably the best (legitimate) broadband deal to come along in my area. It will be interesting to see how they handle all of us $30 customeres next year when we go to cancel because they want to put us at the $50 rate.

thanks bpb...didn't know about the Tribune ad...I just heard from a friend who's business was given the offer and was told it was "private" for local businesses....perhaps they need more modems...and something else is incorporated....
