Americas's Best High Schools

OK maybe I am missing it but what does Minority Enrollment mean to them? Just black?
Cause the #1 school is in my area and I know asians make up a whole lot more then 4.9%. I think whites are the majority with asians right behind them then a mix of black/hispanic/etc...

I'd never trust sending my kid to "Loveless Academic Magnet Program High School", what the hell does that even mean.

hehe. Brooklyn Tech. We hated you guys at Stuyvesant.

Lol I know. I was at Tech in 2001 when Stuy's building was evacuated for a while after 9/11 because of its proximity to WTC. Everyone resented having all the Stuy students using the building after us because some obnoxious students left retarded notes about how our school and building sucked. I had friends from MS in Stuy and Bronx Sci, so I was alright with all 3 of the specialized science schools, even though there was a supposed rivalry.

I ended up moving to suburbs junior year, so I was only at Tech for half of HS.

The rankings don't include private schools, and are basically weighted according to how many AP exams the students take. I wouldn't put too much stock into them.

Way to maximize an opportunity, lol. 😉

Heh, TJ was just another crappy Fairfax County High School when that happened, not the high tech magnet school it is today. They just happened to have a planetarium so other high schools in the county would take field trips over there to use it.

Not that hard to be good when you hardly enroll anyone, although number 1 does have a decent enrollment. Most of the rest are pretty low if that's for all 4 years.

A list based heavily on students taking AP tests is dumb. Schools make themselves look better by filtering students into those classes, even if they aren't ready. My old HS has essentially removed honors classes in places where there are AP classes available to take its place. And I've spoken with some of my old teachers about that situation - they mention that the AP classes are being watered down. It's pretty ridiculous.

A good third (probably more like 7/8th) based on name, are all prep schools. Don't think that should really count.

Teh overall majority are public schools. But they are public schools where they take the top kids from each school and make 1 school and then brag about it.
So the ratings are not about the school, but the best students they can place in 1 school. So it should be "rankings of best group of students". 🙂

black, hispanic or amer indian. in the top 100 list they have that note in a tooltip.

is it me or is there no large schools included in this? most schools were listed as less than 1000 kids over 4 grades. my hs had that in my class alone. close to 3500 kids in the whole school. i wonder how biased (or if any) the results were?
