I took a few of the worst and put them into what you think is the worst. The Cross Bronx Expressway scored #1 as the worst in the America with I-95 through Northern Virginia trailing behind the Cross Bronx. "The 405" in LA was nice and scored #3rd worst.

None of them can come close to the traffic you would experience as a Chinese driver.

Not related to traffic, but something I never got about the 405 was why it was made in such a way that driving along it made me feel like my wheels were square.

Yeah. I-95 through New Haven and The Merritt are even worse. Route 8 has it's
"I wanna blow up the cars in front of me with a bazooka" moments through Derby as well.

I used to drive the Merritt every day. While worse than Danbury-Waterbuy, my Hartford commute is worse IMO. Also, RT 8 can be a mixed bag. Sometimes it is bad; others of is not.

I count both I-95 and the Merritt Parkway as a single unit. Milford to Stamford is the worst stretch in the state, even with 2 major highways covering the same area at times only a few miles apart. I'd rate the Q Bridge in New Haven as 2nd worst, you can spend years there. Luckily when I have to go that way I'm going the opposite of the traffic flow, so I don't get caught in the worst. Danbury to Hartford on I-84 is 3rd because there are only a couple of spots that tie up.

Route 8 isn't so bad, almost all of that entire road from Bridgeport to the Massachusetts line is glorious. The only bad stretch is the Commodore Hull bridge in Derby and you can take comfort from knowing that once you get through the rest is smooth sailing.

From experience @ rush hour in CT:

1. I-95 Stamford-Bridgeport
2. I-84 Hartford
3. Merritt Parkway Stamford-Fairfield
4. I-95 Milford-Q Bridge
5. I-84 Danbury
6. I-84 Waterbury

LA hands-down worst in USA.

Although I voted for the 101 I really don't drive there often enough to know which roads are the worst day to day. However the sheer volume of traffic is truly epic even when compared to other major US cities like NYC.

China on the other hand is completely out of control.

The worst places I have personally driven:
405 between orange county and the SF valley
75/85 connector through Atlanta

Worst places I have been a passenger in a car:
NYC from Manhattan to Rockville Centre
Chicago

That seems about right although I think I would rate Waterbury above Danbury. Been awhile since I've driven either, though.

The cross bronx is so goddamn obnoxious. I don't think I've EVER driven there without hitting 40 minutes+ of bumper to bumper traffic.

The Hartford-NYC run can be pretty bad, however, its nowhere near consistantly bad as the CBE.

Last saturday, I hit SIX completely different traffic accidents during a Hartford to CT run. One the way back up yesterday, there was a car accident that had happened literally 5 minutes before I got there. It took up 3 lanes of a 4 lane highway. If I had gotten there 10 minutes after I did, I would have gotten home at 1am instead of 9pm

However, at least these clear up, the CBE is perpetually gridlocked.

Meh, Danbury gets worse. Danbury's high growth rates in the last decade and more people work in NYC, Wetchester, etc. I was driving from NY to Hartford, and Danbury was backed up between exits 2-7 at 3:30PM and 8-11 at 4:00PM. Never driven it at 5:00PM, but I have a feeling it all creates one big giant backup.
