I am dry, my mom's house 5 miles away is dry... 2 blocks away from her are cars underwater. I get to go to work when we get power back there and figure out just how much stuff is working. It is dry according to the crew that went in to look but we lost all lines going into the building (T1 voice, T3 computer, backup 50meg ethernet, 5 POTS).

Lost power about 1230 last night. Drove around a bit and looks like I'm major screwed. Only the poower on my block is out, houses behiinnd us, to left and right and everyone else within a mile is still lit up. Which means we'll be the last ones they finally get around to restoring even though its probably less than an hour of work.m

Wow. The winds are beginning to pick up a bit here in Albany, NY. I lost two trees in my yard already. One fell in the back yard towards the woods (no houses up there.) The other fell in my front yard and clipped my neighbors garage. I hope none fall on our (or my neighbor's) house!

They're predicting the storm to peak between noon and 6PM here today.

Edit - Does anyone know if this needs to be reported to the police since there is property damage?

My sister lives in Waterford, near you. I got a call from a family member a while ago, they said that one wall on her basement was beginning to bulge. The fire department came out and determined the rain caused the ground to shift. They're out in the wind and rain with a ton of neighbors and a good chunk of the fire department digging so they can get the pressure off the foundation and reinforce it.

Well, I spoke too soon. Just when it look like the worst was over my entire city power grid went down and we lost power for about four hours. I took that time to drive around and check out the damage and it's pretty severe. Major flooding of low lying areas, lots and lots of downed trees, wires across roads everywhere, windows broken, signs toppled, buildings damaged, etc. Even though it wasn't as bad as it could have been it was still bad enough. We only got 6-8" or rain instead of the 12-16" that we could have gotten without the storm weakening and breaking apart earlier than expected. That was a big help. Even so, about 70% of the state lost power today and some parts could be out for a week or more.

York County, Maine, is not seeing shit from this storm. It's a little windy out here about a mile from the ocean, but that's it. It's apparently missing us to the interior and parts of Vermont are totally under water. Pretty insane, considering I was buying the last 2 packs of D batteries at the store two nights ago.

The power has flickered twice tonight so far, though. Even though its not raining, the wind is still there.

Hope everyone who was affected has their power back on and homes back in order quickly.

due to flooded roads, I decided to work from home this morning.

around 9 am, my cable/internet go out.

ordinarily, this would be great... can't work, get a day off. except my other coworker who was also working today is based out of the UK. and he's new.

so I spent my entire day getting phone calls every 5 minutes asking me to walk him through everything over the phone... worst. day. ever.

My favorite swimming beach on the Outer Banks is now a new inlet! The inlet runs through the Pea Island Wildlife Refuge staff housing as well.

The first part of the video is another breakthrough at Rodanthe, NC. I suspect that NC Dept Transportation is busy plugging the holes even now.

Some of those videos from NC was pretty amazing. Sea water filled sounds blown totally dry and people walking through them, walking right next to crab pots full of crab that had only hours before been located at the bottom of the water. Would like to see some video of the water return.

And add 3 more hours without power to the total. And today was bad with high about 90, luckily tomorrow is just supposed to reach 80.

That seems like a nice place, but it looks too risky to build there even if it is just a vacation home.

Well, the rain held off when we were down in Newport, RI on Saturday but on the drive home, it downpoured so hard that I couldn't even see ten feet in front of me for a short spurt. Luckily, the highway was fairly empty and it was a straight away.

power back on about 2 hours ago, so about 38 hours of camping in the house. would be nice without the 90 degree heat and 80% humidity.
