tough question.

If someone were to GIVE me either a viper or a Z06, I would pick the viper.

If I had 100K in the bank and my only choices were a viper and Z06, I would BUY the Z06.

man, i got some crazy nun picture going there don't I.

Anyhow, viper's ride is horrible, it tracks on those stupid freeway grooves on the road, it drifts off road crowns, extreme driveline lash at slow speeds, one monster of a transmission tunnel that takes up foot room, cheap dodge interior, overall lack of quality.

But it is still one hell of a car. Anybody spare some change?

<< The Corvette ZR-1 doesn't need $25,000 worth of mods...with a competent driver, it will out gun almost every stock car available in the US. >>

I didn't say mod a ZR-1. The damn thing isn't even produced anymore and the C5 makes the ZR-1 worthless IMHO. And I'm talking about adding $25k in mods to the C5.

Because of length of time the Corvette has been around in America, it has to be the best or atleast most well known of the two. How long has Chevy been producing the Vette, come on that was an easy one. ;)

If I had the choice and money was no object, I would go with the Viper. But realty dictates it would be more realistic for me to be able to own a Vette..:D

<< Okay Viper GTS

No viper on production tires can pull 1.0g. Sorry in aint happening.
>>

Wrong! The '00 Viper can pull .99g and Vipers with the 17" rims pull 1.0g+

Have to go with the Viper on this one.

Having owned many "Vettes" (58, 62, 66, 77 and 82), I would not buy another one.

Yes, they are sophisticated and comfortable and semi-reliable and these were some of my reasons for buying them way back when but now, they are a dime a dozen, seen everywhere. Also, have you sat in one lately? I am 5'9" tall but to drive one of these things with a clutch, there is no way I can get comfortable.

The Viper is a brute in many ways and that is what I want now. This is not a grocery getter that any female can go shopping in, this car needs to be driven. No disrespect meant, Ladies, Ive seen many good female drivers but not many in Vipers or even Vettes with clutches.

It's all about the engine and suspension tweaks that made ZR-1 owners wary of "upgrading" to the C5. It's not that much of an advance, and it's not faster in terms of top speed. I also think the C5 looks ungainly, but that's just me. Also, which car broke the 50yr old 24HR top speed endurance record? That'd be the ZR-1, baby! As for being a dime a dozen...there were only 6000 ZR-1s built:)

From the topic, I thought you meant all corvette's and vipers. There is a reason why the ZR-1 is called the "King of the Hill". That reason is that it really whipped the lama's ass(there's no copyright on that quote, is there?:p)! Back in 1989, no cars reasonably priced could keep up with it. It embarassed Ferrari, outgunned porsches, and made the Lamborghini Countach look excessively goofy. Fast forward to 2001, and the 405BHP put out by a car 7 years old(1994 ZR-1), still puts many a car to shame. Working with only 5.7L Displacement, it makes the 8.0L V-10 look plain inefficient. As for Z06 vs. Viper...I'd still choose the Z06. Only 50K, and it hangs with the Viper GTS, until the short final drive gear ratio cuts the fun off at 168mph.

You could say the ZR-1 made the Viper a viable option. Before the Corvette ZR-1, who would spent $80,000 on an AMERICAN sports car? Hell...not many people would dish out money for a 40K Corvette!

The Viper cleans up shop. It dishonours the Viper to even be included with the lowly Corvette. Not only is the Viper the most beautiful car in the world, its FAST! Whenever I see a vette on the road I almost hack up from it being so ugly. It's so ugly that...

Undoubtedly.. I would get the Z06 in a heartbeat.. you can't even drive the Viper for more than an hour without stopping to recover! The Z06 is a luxury car in comparison.

Even though the Viper is faster, has much more awe-factor, and the second-gen looks better (the new ones look like a friggin ricey S2000 and the first gen's were too clown-shoey for me), I'd say overall the Corvette is the better sports car.

the question is which is the better SPORTS CAR, not which one has more raw power.

If the Vette WAS that $25K more in price as the Viper I'm thinking it would have something like Chevy's 7.4 or even now 8.1 litre in it to compete with that Viper. Again Bad comparison, and it's why Chevy CEO's are seen at the bank far more often then Dodge. The Vette as you say is a Dime a Dozen, *Laugh* (You can't afford one) anyhow it's aimed at a different market, If you don't get that then I suggest staying far away from any marketing type of career.

Sorry to be harsh but you seem to let it pass through your ears EVERY time.

If we are going to compare price, the Lingenfelter is just shy of $90K so that'll put it in the price range of the GTS.... OMG it's a second faster in the 1/4 mile...

BTW the Viper is still an AWESOME car.

My Vote goes to Mustang. More sold then Vette, Viper, and F-body's combined. Ever since 65 it's been a historic car in the US.

And to end it NFS yes a Stang is always a Stang, But the guy with a Stang that's faster at the track then a Porsche is usually the one laughing also :p Lets spend more money to go slower, yep sounds like a winner to me :D

Um, I like Mustangs (Ford in general really) but this is between the Viper and Vette. The Mustang doesn't come close to either car, why are you bringing it up?

if you want a pure race car, although an expensive one, the Viper is for you. The Viper does have shortcomings though. You'll surely need a new spine after spending more than 30 minutes in one! and they just now got ABS brakes. Interior styling? none. The Viper is a no-holds-barred pure race car.

The Corvette is American history, an icon of pure American power and sport. Since 1953 the Corvette has been capturing the imagination of people. There are over 1300 Corvette clubs in the US alone. Every continent except Antartica has Corvette clubs. It is an American tradition, and a little different car than the Viper. Despite what NFS4 might try to tell you, the Corvette has interior comfort, futuristic heads-up display intrument panels, superior safety features, proven performance, advanced Gen-2 active handling system giving a perfect smooth ride, handles like a champion, the perfect balance of inredible power that can be unleashed even more with the booming Corvette aftermarket, and interior style and class.

The viper is NOT a legitimate practical daily driver. For weekend sprints and taking it to the track, the Viper is hard to beat. For daily driveability and all aroud comfort with power, the Corvette is there for you.

Amen. Plus, if Chevy put an additional $25K worth of "goodies" in to the production Z06, thereby making it an EQUAL comparison, I am certain it would more than hold its own. But Chevy doesn't do this for a couple of reasons, chief being that they want to keep the insurance rate for a 'Vette as low as possible, without sacrificing too much in performance. This is straight from the Chief Designer's lips, not some B.S. that someone reads in C&D or MT. Pay a magazine enough $'s and they will give you just about any review you want.

*Giggle, titter, giggle*

Thats rich. So whats that new mustang pull in the 1/4 from the factory. To even include it in this comparison is laughable.

For you people that say the vette is roomier and gets better gas mileage and stuff: You don't buy a sports car for economy or cargo room. You buy a sports car for pure fun, can you honestly say that a 'vette would be more fun to drive than a viper?

Russ why haven't you said something yet as a longtime vette owner? :)

And equally stupid for you to support imports as you do. Why? Because despite what others would have you to believe, the majority of the $'s/profits from those foreign companies do not stay in our economy. And they, and their suppliers generally treat their workforce only a little better than indentured servants. Worse yet is their system of keiretsu whereby only those who are part of their cliche can be suppliers (in other words, best price and quality will not get you supplier approval).

But the #1 reason is that foreign governments do not treat American-made cars equally when it comes to duties/import taxes/whatever other penalty they can think of. When the price of an American car is nearly doubled, for example, in Japan, by these "added costs", there needs to be retributions taken by the U.S. for autos built by, or in, those countries which discriminate against the U.S. auto industry.

No, it's stupid to ridicule someone for what they drive. Hell, my Camry was built here in America by American workers. So smoke on that!
