america's army

I downloaded this a while back to play as kind of a temporary thing before I HL2 came out. Turns out it's a GREAT game, lots of fun and very realistic.

But it can be kinda slow, and you don't kill many people (you end up dying most of the time) and you have to pass some training courses before you can play. But it all adds to the reality of the game (realness?)

search Software/Games forum for more details

but I find the demo for Battlefield 2 to be more enjoyable, more stable, and nicer to look at than anything AA has produced to date

It's a very realistic game.

You could very well end up waiting over 10 minutes between rounds.

You do a lot of dying at first.

That, and you can spend atleast an hour or two just getting through the training courses.

If you're just starting, expect to get your ass handed to you a lot. Don't whine about having to sit and wait until the next round starts, that's the way the game is. Play CS if you're the hyperactive script kiddie type. And if you do hang around long enough to get good at the game, expect to be called h4x0r and ch34t3r and every other name in the book. Paranoia is rampant in that game.

there are also alot of people with aimbots out there. They are pretty rampant. Reminds me of CS 1.5

Yes there are, which is the reason for the paranoia. You can never be sure if the guy who just whacked you did it legit or if he's using hacks. Punkbuster isn't doing sh!t for the game, and the devs seem to drag their ass on doing anything about the hackers either.

Medic training courses are more lecture than quiz. The quiz itself is easy. Lecture is mandatory every retake though. I normally go grab some food if I feet like retaking it.

Shooting range can take some getting used to.

The second map of special forces training (sneak around and don't get caught) is a major PITA though. Took me over a week to get it right.
