Americans: Would you bail on the US?

It is not an illogical question. For all of those who don't answer the question because they believe it isn't possible, it is a HYPOTHETICAL question. Whether or not you think it can happen is totally irrelevent to the question. Something to consider, economic pressure is the main reason today for population shifts. All historical and statistical evidence would indicate that IF the U.S. in the future were to be a minor economic power and in the middle of a depression, that large portions of the population WOULD emigrate. Its that FVCKING simple. Now answer the FVCKING question.

Why would I ever leave the best country in the world?

In this scenario, its entering a depression and on the brink of collapse. Doesn't sound like the best country to me.

If the US enters a depression and collapses, what do you think will happen to the rest of the world?

Since we don't do anything for the rest of the world except start wars, prop up Israel, and export bad movies, I think they'll get along just fine without us. You overestimate the United States' importance in the whole scheme of things.

The US does a lot more than just make bad Hollywood movies.

That's right, we savage our newborn baby boys, import lots of goods made by slave labor countries, and talk about Jesus. Am I missing anything?

Yeah, lots of things. It's pretty amazing that some people think that a country that is the world's only superpower, has a large number of the world's elite universities, etc. doesn't really do anything.

Somehow I suspect that the people that say these things don't really do anything significant themselves and thus apply their own mediocrity to the rest of the population.

We're only a superpower because we have a big military. What happens when China starts building ships and their air force, using stolen American technology? We make it really easy for them, by having them make everything for us.

Already looking for a place in UK, Germany or s.america (Chile) to bail from this place.
Either that or we will just move to NYC. (pretty isolated from the backward parts even moreso then the city of SF)
So yes, I owe nothing to a arbitrary border. Why limit yourself?

I can't say I am surprised.

Well I see two kinds of people in this thread:

1) This could never happen because the US is the best country ever and I refuse to believe reports showing other countries to be better educated, harder working, eliminating the technology gap, and much, much cheaper. I think the US can continue to compete on manufacturing!
2) The US is already worthless. Rather than trying to fix education and increase investment in innovative technologies and research I'm going to jump ship now. I will ignore the fact that the US still has a large lead over it's competitors and would be able to avoid drastic reductions in the standard of living if it can keep this edge.

Yup, I'm leaving.

It is sad how you split everyone up into just two groups. It isn't that simple.

Meh. The correct answer is to move substantial portions of your assets overseas before the dollar collapses, just like the big boys. As in any such scenario, there will be both winners and losers. Folks whose assets are stuck in the US, or who have no appreciable assets to move (+90% of the population) will suffer the most.

I don't think any sort of economic impetus would drive me out. The accompanying social unrest might- Rip's brethren legalizing book burning, gay murder, stoning of adulterers, witch burnings, etc, would be a little more than I could bear...

I'm already working towards it. As soon as I am financially ready, I'm outta here.

I'm impressed, a Georgian that wants to leave the Holy Homeland.

Where are you going?

Probably Cancun???

There is a huge formerly American contingent growing there.

The only problem is that Mexico becomes Officially the 51st State (I'm pretty sure Mexico will become the next State before Canada) that all the Taxation and rest of the problems all over again.

Where on the Planet does the Religious U.S. have the least influence?

I guess you've never heard of the global economy.

What you fail to realize is America has made itself an Island. It imports everything, the rest of the World makes everything it needs, it has no "need" for the U.S. at all anymore.

Surely you don't mean absolutely everything, and are just exaggerating.

If the ones who would bail would just leave now................

Then you could have your theocratic paradise with lots of wars, low taxes on the rich, and you could clean toliets for Jenna Bush or some other rich person. Actually, that would be fun to watch ... from Europe.

I don't understand...if the US doesn't do anything then why does it have any technology to steal?

I believe your flight is boarding just now.

People should stick around in case backwards Americans need another smackdown like they got in the Civil War.

And fight for what?
You would have to tear down the whole media, all the bs fed to these folks their whole tv-addicted lives to pull the wool from their eyes probaly killing many innocent fellow americans. I say let the 'cons shoot themselves in the foot.
Sooner or later the blind-followers of america will wake up like they had to with nixon.
The bigger they are the harder they fall.
The whackos who run the show WILL trip themselves up, anything so bloated and full of hypocricy is doomed to failure. Hell, they do not even have half this country fooled much less the world. Their time is limited just like all empire doomed to failure.

Let the cons have their day in the sun, hopefully they do not screw anything up permantly, but be ready to return or know how best you can help when it is time to move this country forward again -it is going to be a lot of work with the mess they are putting us in.

Know and learn from these experiences of this early decade of the 21st century to find out how you can better serve your fellow americans so the threat of corruption and nationalism is forestalled in the future and we do not get fooled again.

In the end mindless followers fade into history forgotten, only those who stand up in the face of opposition for what is right against the status quo make history and are known as heros in times of trouble and great opposition.

The more the greedy power-addicted tell the ones they opress that they are weak, out of touch, and utterly defeated, etc etc the more dedicated we are to set things right.

In the end the people will always win although the price may be high.
The huge statue the 'cons have erected for themselves have feet made of the softest clay, the corruption and greed eats and tears at the foundation.

We can topple it with minimal damage when they screw up and get to full of themselves -they always do.

You never know, they are really pushing things too far this time,
we may be able to break the republican and democrat cycle of greedy old white men who are senators sons of senators sons or uber-rich elitests.
This time lets work for a real representation of americans when they screw up,
try some real democracy in this country for once.
One not based on greed and blind competition to screw our neighbors over for a bigger piece of the corrupt pie.

Uhh..that isn't a good example at all. In fact, thats a really bad analogy.

Yeah, especially since Bush is aligning the military with certain red states. This serves to solidify his hold on power in addition to smacking around the people who didn't help elect him.
