Biggest problem I have with today's DLable files is DRM. If I can't view it in 20 years, I don't own it.

When was the last time you were browsing a CD Store? The "content protected" CDs are become prolific. About 1/4 of the albums I have purchased in the last year would have it if I purchased the physical CDs.

10-12 for a CD? Heh, not in Alaska. Try ~$20 a pop unless you buy used, or some really obscure band. $20 for an hour of music is even more expensive per hour than a live concert. That's when there is something wrong with the picture.

Uh wtf, do you throw away your cd's after listening to them once?

Actually, I almost do. I rarely ever buy CD's; but when I do I immediately rip them into mp3's and then give the CD away. Most of the CD is usually garbage anyway except for one or two tracks. So i collect 100+ mp3's from 30-50 of my favorite albums and put them onto a single disc, then that gives me 8-10 hours of music for when I'm driving. I hate changing CD's every hour, or every few minutes to hear my favorite songs from different groups.

I still like to buy CDs, but I generally buy at least 20 a pop, and I like to find em for Under $10 each.

The best Deal I've come across was from "bloodsoaked records." They no longer appear to be in buisness, but they had a special where it was $200 for 55 different CDs. No bootlegs either. (Note: These were all underground death or black metal bands, many of which were Demo's. Some were not so good, but some were Masterpieces ..example masterpiece being Isacaarum C*nt Hackers...))

I'd sooner buy a CD for $10-$12 than pay to download some garbage compressed crap.

How about for $6?

That would be awesome if they actually had non-popular stuff. I just searched for 2 CDs I just purchased on amazon for ~$12 (Soilwork and Grip, Inc.) and they didn't have them.

I haven't bought a new CD in going on 10 years. Haven't heard anything worth buying. The same goes for downloading, nothing even worth the download time, except I'll admit I have downloaded some Rammstein songs, about the only thing I've heard that I've actually liked in the past 10 years. I'm pretty content with my collection of rock from the 60's to the 90's.

NEW YORK ? Music executives love to blame illegal downloading for their industry's woes. But based on the results of a new nationwide poll, they might want to look in the mirror.

Eighty percent of the respondents consider it stealing to download music for free without the copyright holder's permission, and 92 percent say they've never done it, according to the poll conducted for The Associated Press and Rolling Stone magazine.

Meanwhile, three-quarters of music fans say compact discs are too expensive, and 58 percent say music in general is getting worse.

hmm...i don't believe those polls, unless they just happened to poll that many people who really haven't.

i agree with the rest though.

All of that, and people are sick of buying 10 tracks of crap for 1 or 2 good tracks.

I'd rather pay for the cd for better quality than some compressed 128kbps song.

\you do realize that it IS possiable to Dl better qual songs then that, hell you can get FLAC from a few places

I need to look for better places then.

i agree that music in general has gotten worse. I used to be a huge hiphop/rap fan, but i haven't liked any of the new crap in ages. I mainly listen to trance/house now, and of course, the older hip hop that i still love.

Your reading comprehension is the suck. The article clearly says the opposite of what's in the tread title. The article says Americans would rather buy music than download, seeing as though 92% say they've never done it, and 80% consider it stealing. The only negative stat towards the music industry is the claim that 58% that say music in general is getting worse.

Read again, it says that they never downloaded it for FREE, as in stealing.

Poll: Americans Would Rather Download Music Than Buy CDs

That's the title of the article. Also the title of the thread.

And for the people saying it's the same price to download as it is to go buy a CD?

1 CD of 15 songs, of which maybe TWO are good, costs $15 in a store.

1 CD of 15 songs, that you picked out because you like, costs $15 to download.

Price is the same, value is not. Value > Price.

anyone else still using allofmp3? haven't heard of any legal issues recently and i like non-drm and that you pay based on the file size.
