“Microwave popcorn at its inception was all about convenience, having only to wait three minutes to get warm, delicious popcorn,” said Colleen Bailey, Orville [Redenbacher]'s brand director. But “as times have changed, the definition of convenience has changed.”

“You don't have to take the extra step of opening the box, opening the wrapper,” and “hoping you have the skill to watch it appropriately so you don't ruin the product,” said Beth Bloom, a food and drinks analyst with market researcher Mintel.

We must be the only household with no Microwave. People think we are weird but we simply have 0 use for it.

And yes we cook 99% of our food at the house....

I have a microwave, but never use it. Everything that comes out of a microwave either tastes awful or has a terrible texture/consistency.

i dont understand...pre-popped bagged popcorn has been around since before there was microwave popcorn.

I have a microwave, but could easily live without it. I have the one I'm using, and one in the basement. If both of those broke, I couldn't see spending money for another. I got both of the ones I have free.

Couple tablespoons of bacon grease, a tall stainless steel pot with a lid, and some good popping corn is all you need.

Then, when it's done, season it with salt and pepper.

1 brown lunch bag, 1/4 cup of popcorn, a teaspoon or two of good oil, some popcorn salt, fold bag over twice, staple bag closed (2 staples), shake, place in microwave.

Easy, super cheap, and delicious.

staples in the microwave, lol.

Yes, staples in a microwave. Did you know you can put metal in the microwave if you know what you are doing? Metal on its own doesn't necessarily cause electric discharge in a microwave. There will be no sparks and no harm to your microwave. The bag acts to keep the staples in check.

*gasp* even professional microwave popcorn bags contain metal! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microwave_popcorn

So there's basically a rising demand for pre-popped corn, which has been in the snack aisle as long as chips have been. Not much of a story here.

Ate microwave popcorn for years before finally discovering the stove top method. Makes far better popcorn, only downside is there's a pot to clean.

This sort of thing makes me hate young people more than ever. You had to discover stove top popping?!?! Aaaarg!

At least you recognize that non-microwave is superior.

no no no. you don't microwave popcorn, you pop it on the stove. in a pot. with oil.

That was my preference until my wife got me a microwave popping bowl. Now I just season the kernels, put it in the bowl and place it in the microwave. Just as healthy as air popping.

But, and listen carefully, this may be hard to follow: FUCK AIR POPPING!!!!! 😡

This this and more this. Bacon grease popcorn is so good. You can get creative and use other flavored oils. I used a rosemary infused oil once to make popcorn and that tasted pretty good. Order chinese takeout and those small plastic containers filled with the red hot oil can make some pretty spicy popcorn.

Oh god here we go. Only on ATOT people argue about what kind of popcorn is the best.

Airpopped vs microwaved vs pan-fried vs 'fvck-you-I-have-a-full-blown-kettle-station'.

You guys will turn anything into a flamefest. Coffee and rice cooker got nothing on this.

Jiffy-pop. On the stove. Watching the aluminum expand. Watching the aluminum catch fire. running around house with burning jiffy-pop popcorn and molten aluminum tub wondering how the fuck do i put this out!

Yeah, I would rather use the microwave. but i will never eat premade from a bag unless there is a freaking toy in the bag.
