Or maybe it's not that bad.

S.F. shopper helps capture fugitive, kidnap victim

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2010/12/11/MN0I1GP6UF.DTL

A relieved Virginia police chief extended an emotional thank-you from across the country to a San Francisco woman who spotted a fugitive sought in a slaying and kidnapping...

Just a reminder that there's nothing wrong to be on the lookout for dirtbags and terrorists and that cops do more than just kill dogs and tasing students.

They always start with the easy targets (kidnappers, rapists, murderers, etc). Next it will be rowdy protesters and people late on their DMV tags. Before long, your neighbor will tell the police of the Jews sheltered in your basement.

Did you have to use such a Troll-Porn title, OP?

Now they'll be coming out of the woodwork.

Or was this your intention ?

This couldn't have happened. Everyone in SF is a drug-addled communist out for as much govt aid as they can get. And the police are just in it for the incredible union benefits.

I seriously doubt that citizens' arrests and useful tips are any more common now than they were 10 years ago. The media is grasping at straws for any reason to justify the government's latest abortion of our rights.

Wikileaks will probably seal the deal on government control over Internet content, having exactly the opposite effect than what was intended.

Regardless of how the media paints it and regardless of what politicians and unelected officials say, we are on a slow march toward 1984 as a reality. We've got the "war", we've got the "thought police", and we've got the government instigating citizens against other citizens. There really isn't much further left to go.

Don't twist a situation around to cover up big brother. It is our right as given to us by the creator to have free choice. Preventing someone from commenting a crime befor he or she commits it . Is the removal of free choice and loss of freedom . alot of things can stop crime . But the real issue is at what cost. The removal of free choice and freedom is unexceptable. The other day a woman at firestone left her purse . I pointed it out and they went over and looked in it. I lol and guy looks at me and smiles and says this isn't NYC. I laughed . and replied maybe its NYC that needs to go . He agreed, The case your referring to is a case of justice and commen sense

He fell asleep in a Firestone waiting room while watching Minority Report is the best I can figure.

Then he apparently woke up and helped some grease monkeys jack some New York woman's purse.

Somehow he blames his big brother, for commenting to God or something.

My next door neighbor use to call the City and tell them my trash was all over when some stray dog went through my trash. She was an idiot. However, turning people in that actually commited a real crime might be applaudable.

Only as long as due process is followed, which we all know how well the fed.gov follows those rules.

For instance, if a neighbor sees me bringing guns in to my house from my car and reports me, does that give the government license to search my home for anything? The neighbor doesn't know whether those guns are legal and registered. The police won't know whether they're not just paintball guns. What, exactly, are the authorities supposed to do with this information? A "tip" that some guy in suburbia just moved a bunch of guns from his car to his garage isn't enough for the police to do shit.

Yet, we all know the fed.gov will conduct fishing expeditions from info gleaned from these "tips" regardless of substance. Once your "name" is on a "list", you're fucked.
