I was just pondering this question, in light of the California election. Where would you go, and why?

edit- oh, and moving to a country simply because pot is legal isn't a justifiable answer.

Australia, Ireland, England, Taiwan. In that order.

EDIT: Oh, and for why, I prefer countries with english speaking populations, strong civilizations, and something to look at besides dirt.

Duroc, ElFenix, why? Something about those governments that appeal to you? Or just because you really wouldn't have to learn another language?

Canada. It is a beautiful country, the people friendly, its attached, and most importantly my wife is from there so as long as I don't try to enter Quebec I have an automatic pass. When we were engaged and my wife still lived in Montreal she checked on what would be required for me to stay in Montreal rather that her move here. We were told we first had to apply to Quebec. She did so and we still have not heard anything back. It has been 18 years so I assume the answer is no.

What do you guys think of the governments of these places you're listing? Does that play any part in your choice?

Southern France would be nice. I could be very happy working a vineyard or something. :)

Holland is nice but the weather's pretty awful.

I'm curious about Australia as well, but haven't been there so can't definitively say I'd like to live there.

The laws and governments in most of these countries (Canada, UK, Australia, any first-world English speaking country) really aren't all that different from the US.

Of course it does, would you move to Iran ?

Australia, NZ, or Canada if I wanted to continue living a life to the one I'm used to.
Costa Rica or a small Carribean country if I decided to ditch my current goals and become a fisherman (I've thought about this before). :)
Southern Italy or a Grecian Isle if I win the lottery! (well, maybe one of the above instead) :D
The Netherlands because of the reason that the OP said we can't use. ;) :p
