After being in Europe for 6 six weeks, I must agree. They eat far fewer processed foods; they eat more natural stuff. They also walk and bike a whole lot more than we do. They are not safe, though. American fastfood chains like McDonalds are gaining market share over there. It's sad to see.

gaining market share? in london you're never more than a few hundred feet from a mcdonalds. seems saturated to me.

ditto.

About 2 in 5 adult in england is overweight.

Perhaps, but this is the first chance I've had to voice my opinion and get voted down by fat people for it! :D

I just started a fitness plan last week but I want to ask whats wrong with too much salt.
For one thing, too much salt in your system leads to excess fluid build-up. This causes your heart to work harder and can lead to high blood pressure and contribute to heart problems.

You only actually need about 220-500 mg of sodium per day but most people take in 5,000+. Some are more salt-sensitive than others.

I havent lost alot of weight, mabey 5 pounds but I have gained alot of muscle. I plan on loosing all I can. I am going to college this year and I want to join a gym or use the one on campus.

you shouldn't actually add anymore in to your diet at all.

You get enough from what you eat to not have to add any extra.

What's really amazing is how the incidence of obesity has skyrocketed in the last 10 years or so relative to the rest of human existence. My home state of Georgia went from 9.2% to 20.9% in that time span.

Data by state from 1991 to 2000

Rain is awesome. That's my favorite time to go mountain biking!

It really shocks me how everyone here acts like they're made of sugar every time it rains! Oh, wait, they probably ARE made of sugar! :Q

I'm sorry but not even subway is healthy, its just way better than Miki'D's or any other crapy food chains like that. Americans are getting quite large, but one only has to look at how easy Americans have it to see why we are getting bigger. If we were slaving our asses off in a cole mine or doing something constructive like building houses and hunting our food we would be in a much better health (aside from the cole mine thing). I hate to admit it, but not even I eat perfectly 24/7, and I really do care about my health!. Fast food is EVERYWHERE. You can be anywhere in the US and not be more than 10 minutes away from a Miki'D's or Burger King it seems. These fast food chains are no better than the cigarette companies, killing off Americans for their money. Holidays, birthdays, rough days, parties, sporting events, all reasons for people to indulge in foods that are bad for them. It's pretty messed up that so many are overweight, but for the most part its the structure and ease of living in our environment that?s making people overweight. Good health these days means a dramatic and expensive life style change, which turns away most anyone. Of course if your lucky enough to have a body that?s able to cope with all the sh*tty food then you can just rag on people about how fat they are and make posts such as this one. If you knew any of the overweight people in America you would quickly see that a lot of the DO NOT over eat, they just simply cant handle the food everyone else is eating.

hey fatties...the reason america is fat is because of all these low fat no fat diets. people think that eating healthy consists of not eating meat. Well tell you what, high fat, high carb meals are whats killing america,(which is what fast food consists of) The reason europeans are so skinny is cause of all the meat they eat. believe it or not, fats are good for you, you need them to survive!

High Fat/High Carb Foods ? The prototypical Western diet consists of foods that are both high in bad fats and high in carbs. In America, that diet has lead to a climbing rate of obesity and obesity-related diseases. It?s also lead to fat girls who insist on showing off their bellybutton rings by wearing cropped shirts, thus exposing blubbery parts of their bodies best left covered by ample amounts of clothing. The madness must be stopped!

Now, what were we talking about again? Oh yeah, fat and carb meals. John Berardi sums it up in his Massing Eating articles: "Meals with a high carbohydrate content in combination with high-fat meals can actually promote a synergistic insulin release when

compared to the two alone. High fat with high-carb meals represent the worst possible case scenario. ?.you?ll promote high blood levels of fats, carbs, and insulin."

What foods are the real bad boys here? Unfortunately, most of the really tasty ones! Except for a rare treat, it?s best to avoid fried foods, pizza, lasagna, pancakes, whole milk, ice cream, cookies, hamburgers, most Mexican food, most Chinese food, and a bunch of other delicious stuff. But you already knew that.

Our coveted "Most Evil Food Known to Man" award goes to the lowly glazed donut, who just barely beats out French fries and fettuccini alfredo.

Foods that make you look good nekkid.

Yes, we Americans are WAAAY too fat on average. I'm doing my part though, I've lost 60lbs in the last 5 months. 6'3" and 237lbs. as of Saturday. 20 more to go and I should be set.

I had convinced myself it wasn't possible for me to get into shape. Once I really got into it I found out it was pretty easy. Much easier than looking at my fat ass in the mirror every day.

I was just going to post something similar. White flour and white sugar are evil. That and anything deep fried.

Dr. Atkins and his low carb ways are a very good idea. See some proof here: http://danjohn.org/diet.html
Of course this guy and his wife don't call it the Atkins diet and they might eat a small amount of carbs, but it's about the same.

Most Americans need a good kick in the a$$ and need to make an effort to do something other than sit in a cubicle and rot in front of their computer. Shame we don't have a draft anymore, might be good for the larger Americans...

I know. North americans are f**king gross and I actually resent an obese person eating something so grossly inappropriate. I find it disgusting watching a fat person eating unhealthily.

That commercial for the tissues with the fat little kid putting back chicken wings is an example of this. Or going to a restaurant and seeing a 250 pound man eating like it's his first meal in weeks. Jesus.
