I think I now see more overweight individuals than not and it's getting worse every year. This isn't good. An overweight populous increases the demand for health care and that raises costs. Heart related ailments are becoming much more common with no end in sight. Much of this can be prevented!

Our lifestyles are definitely less active and we eat poorly. Too much salt, too much saturated fat and too much cholesterol. At some point you pay the piper and I pray it's not at the doctor's office!

So, everybody up! Let's work that flab, get on a low-salt, low-fat, low-cholesterol nutrition plan. You don't have to have a perfect body, just a healthy one. Not only will you help yourself, you'll help your country, too. :)

I agree completely. :)

I wish more people took the time to learn proper nutrition.

Please do yourself a HUGE favor and do not, under any circumstances, move to Oregon. The obesity here makes me F'ing sick. This state is so perfect for outdoorsy types but everyone just sits on their lazy butts and gets fatter. :|

After being in Europe for 6 six weeks, I must agree. They eat far fewer processed foods; they eat more natural stuff. They also walk and bike a whole lot more than we do. They are not safe, though. American fastfood chains like McDonalds are gaining market share over there. It's sad to see.

What's wrong with too much salt?

I love salt!!!

Too much salt = skyrocketing blood pressure.

You don't want to eliminate it completely from your diet, as some salt is required to live, but too much is definitely not healthy.

Maybe with ex-pats and the wealthy, but most people in Europe don't eat McDonalds as it is too expensive. This is especially true outside of large cities.

Yeah, McDonald's is considered a 5-star restaurant in many foreign countries. Pizza Hut, too.

So what if people are fat? That means thin guys will get more girls. This is a chance for (thin) geeks to succeed in getting girls in!!!

Yeah, McDonald's is considered a 5-star restaurant in many foreign countries. Pizza Hut, too.

It's a strange phenomenon:
Traditionally, being overweight is a sign of wealthiness, and in Europe, the well-off are typically heavier than the poor because they can afford fattening foods like beef, and they work in more non-physical jobs, while the lower-class people live on more inexpensive vegetables, don't eat as much because they can't afford to, and work more physically demanding jobs.

In the US, the opposite trend is often seen--the poor are overweight from eating cheap fast-food all the time, while the wealthy are skinny because they can afford trendy healthy foods and health club memberships.
