american workers hate immegrants

i don't think we "hate" them its just that they work for an RC and a moon pie. how can we compete with that?

you know i fit the stero type, im indian and i know how to program. they better give me a damn lot moon pies.

I'm on a TN1 right now - I just hope I can get an H1B before any funky laws kick in; then I can get my greencard about 3 years later.

BTW don't hate the people - hate the employers. They are US employers sponsoring people like me. What do you think I'm gonna do? Sit in Canada jobless or come down here and make double the average Canadian? Its a brainer. Get mad at US employers if you need somebody to get mad at!

The only problem I have with H1Bs is when they're not used to fill vacant positions, but to drive down the wages of workers already here. If they're just flooding the market with prospective employees they can cut salaries then yeah, I'd rather not have the immigrants here. If there really is a shortage of workers, then by all means let people come here to work.

My "problem" with the whole situation is this:

We've been looking for another developer for several months. Shortly after posting a job on Monster/Dice/etc., we were inundated with resumes, mostly from those either out of the country, or on a visa. We brought on a developer contract to hire a while back, and all they wanted was $40k! This was for a supposedly very high-end developer too! It's hard to rationalize to management a raise for me when he thinks he can get two imports for the same price 😉

Maybe u guys are all overpriced 🙂

I understand that imports do lower your salaries but on the other hand if an employer simply can't afford much for a position its either import or nobody...

BTW I don't think there is a tech shortage!
