I've been searching for a few weeks, but I cant find the answer to this:

I'm a citizen and I'm inviting a friend of mine from Europe to the USA for a 6 month period or less. My question is, after I send the invitation and they arrive here, do i HAVE to support them financially or house them? Are they rent their own condo,car,pay their own bills, etc.. while here for business/tourism?

The only thing they can't do is work right? Please someone clarify.

No you have to do nothing. they can pay their own way of course. Once they are here, tehy are on their own.
The invitation simply help getting the visa in the first place.

Thanks for the reply. But once she gets here (with no social security etc).. how is she going to be able to rent an apartment, a car, and etc.. Plus they want a contract for like 1 year or else u lose the 1000$ deposit you put down in the beginning. If she's here for 6 months, does she have to live off hotels/motels all that time?

With no real credit, she wont be able to get most things anyway. Noone will extend a contract to someone on a temporary VISA, because that person has no real motivation to fufill the contract, they are leaving anyway.

You could rent the apartment in your name and get a 6 month lease instead of a 1 year lease and then make her pay you, then you could pay the renting agent.

If you do something like that you had better trust this person with your life.

Yes check craigs list. If she is sharing a house with someone, she most likely wont have to provide any credit details. If she is renting on her own or going to a company then she will need a credit check or soething.
