The industry is terrible with those ads, for instance the shingles vaccine is only 51% effective for 60 year olds, 18% effective for 80 year olds... $200 per shot.

You're overlooking that it also reduces the severity of the symptoms. So even if you do get it, it won't be as terrible. Shingles is nasty.

My primary care doctor is easygoing and friendly, but I would never try to insult his professionalism by suggesting a course of treatment or brand of medication based on a tv commercial. The other thing that makes me laugh is the mention of suicide or death in the disclaimers while they show the actors prancing through a meadow happily.

good this has been needed for forever

Ding ding ding.

No reason for anyone to "Tell your doctor that [drug we're peddling] is right for you". Take that marketing budget and use it on something beneficial like research.

Very timely, the ad for an anti-prostate cancer drug showing at the top of this page warns that pregnant women should not take it.
And how many women do you know who have had prostate cancer? Zero? Damn right.

About bloody time.
"Ask your doctor about..."
=
"Tell your doctor that you must have this or you'll go find a doctor who will prescribe it for you. TV is telling you that this medication is what you need. Don't these people look happy? If only you could see the big, toothy smile on that guy's healthy prostate!

Side effects may include prostatic dentitification."

When these ads get censored, they should also pull the ambulance chancing lawyer ads that follow them. Like, "if you experienced bleeding or sneezing while taking XEROPINE, then call 1-800-DAN-GEROUSDRUG." Or "GET MONEY! whether you've taken ZERALTO or whether you thought about taking it, GET MONEY! Call 1-800-INT-IMIDATE.

I honestly don't mind the ads. Most are for harmless drugs like penis pills, and the rest get people to at least talk to their doctor about their health.

It is funny how much we trust doctors, when often what drug they prescribe is determined by whats on the insurance formulary.

Suspect it won't happen, way too much money coming from "Big Pharma" to allow it. However, it's LONG overdue. I have a HUGE problem with DCTA. Has been a major frustration of mine for many years, and it can be quite damaging.

ban them. I swear that jublia toe nail fungus ad runs every 5 min.

i heard one the other day, dont remember the drug but i im pretty sure at the end the side effects the voice over spewed out was longer than the "hey you need to take this" part.

Some of the side effects are really something else. What I think about is the poor guy who takes three drugs with the side effects of restless leg syndrome, excessive gambling and priapism who then decides to head to Vegas.
