Did any of you that responded to my post actually try and vote?
I called the 800 # for Kelly and got a recording that said "In order to process your vote you must call 1-900-xxx-xxxx this will call will be 1.99 if your under 18 get permesion from your parents"

I am not the only person that got that message.

Now since Spokane WA is in the Eastern part of Nowhere maybe they charge us folks

how do you know htey dont write music? did they ever say they didnt? or did you assume it?

if there are other singers better, they should have tried out.

what's sad is the state of popular music right now.

what's even sadder are people that bitch and moan about it. just listen to the music you listen to and be done with it.

what's even sadder are people who just say one thing because someone else said it (i.e. joe: she sucks! bob and billy: yah!! mike: yah freakin sellouts!

of course the above doesnt only apply to this topic, it applies to lots of other things as well.

ok I will admit I watched every week from the beginning both nights and yes I called and voted a few weeks. It was toll free however I do remember seeing a blip on the screen that said not available in all areas or something like that as I figured I would be one of the ones it was not Available to. Anyhow I called it was free. So must just be your area sucks to be you.

I enjoyed the show quite a bit. Kelly is a great singer, one of the best I've heard. No, her performances were not on par with some of the best in the business, but she is an amateur, a new talent, someone who hasn't had years of vocal training and taken super care of her voice because that's how she makes money. Just wait to hear from her in 3 or four years - she'll be even better then. For what she had to go through to make it to the finals, she sounded simply amazing.

I think everyone was referring to the fact that they never perform any of their own stuff. I, on the other hand, don't find this to be a negative necessarily, I just didn't think they were very good to begin with.

"If there were any singers better, they should've tried out". As I said before, this isn't everyone's "dream" y'know. Most talented singers would like to do something a bit more intelligent with their voices and talents I imagine.

The rest of your post I agree with, however.

A show on VH1 I think said BSB was created by a producer, but NSync was not. Course, this is the TV we're talking about here...you would probably know better than I.
History of BSB:
Howie and AJ often competed at latin singing contests, and got to know each other. Nick and Kevin had worked together in the past, and Kevin knew AJ...AJ wanted to start a band, enlisted Howie and Kevin, Kevin enlisted Nick, they started out. A record producer(the infamous one who was behind BSB, NSync, and O-Town) said he would sign them, if they found a 5th member. Kevin's cousin, Brian, was introduced to the group(and later became the lead)....the only way they were 'put together' was that they were told to add another member.

Yeah, you've kinda nailed why this whole thing is so sad in trying to defend. "Guys, listen, it's not about how talented or musical she is, it's about how cute and adorable she is."
I didn't say that her being cue and adorable is ALL that she needs. You have to give her credit, she can sing. Whether or not you know someone who can sing better is irrelevant. There's always someone better out there, but my point was that you're expecting the show to be something it's not in order to satisfy yourself. You want the definition of a pop star to be one where looks don't matter in order to suit your needs.

Well, unfortunately it's not the case and chances are it's not going to change. You say you don't mean to be snobbish, but you are. To me you're just coming across as a musical elitist. You seem to wish that all musicians would make it on just their talents, but unfortunately, it doesn't work that way if you want to have a career in pop music. I'm not here to defend pop music and what it stands for because for the most part I agree with you that it doesn't always require as much talent if you look good.

If you want good music, don't look to pop for the highest quality because you're not going to find it. If you're disappointed about that, then why? Should they have a competition on Fox next season which showcases classical pianists? I can tell you right now that it'll never happen. Mainly because people could give a crap about the personality of a classical pianist because that's where people make it on their talents. Pop stars have to do much more than just sing and dance. People have to like their personality, otherwise it doesn't make for popular music.

You're exactly right for the most part. The only parts you're wrong about are what you presuming about me. I'm not trying to make pop music into something it isn't. It is, and always has been, based on quite a bit more than talents and musical ability. The point of this whole thread was to point out that the finalists were really un-impressive in my opinion. When they all sang that one tune together (I can't even remember what it was off the top of my head), they didn't really, uh, sound very good, lol. I mean, it was a decent. But it's like, that would have been good for a high school show choir. Supposedly these are the best of the best in the country. Well, ok...

I don't mean to come off as snobbish. I don't expect the whole world to turn into me and listen to classical music instead of pop. There are quite a few extremely talented pop artists. Think of her what you may, Christina Aguilera has an absolutely incredible voice. I guess I was expecting to flip on American Idol and see a bunch of people of that caliber, but it just....wasn't...
