From the creators of quality television like "Who wants to marry a Millionare" and Temptation Island comes American Idol, another effort from Fox to provide us with entertainment and mindless drivel. Basically, it looks like a show where a panel of 3 people hold an audition for singers. From the first look at the commercials, I recoiled in disgust. I mean, comon, making a pop superstar out of a bunch of friggin teenagers across the US? The thought is horrendous.

But now that i'm watching, it's actually pretty damn funny! The british asshat clown of a judge is such a bastard! Some horrendous Christina Aguilera wannabe went on, and he said "You're extraordinary! Extraordinarily BAD!" The one problem about this show is that they don't show the BAD people long enough! All they show are the 10 successful people from every city; they should show MORE of the bad people, with the British guy criticizing them. But out of the people that DO get on, they're actually not as bad, they can actually sing well! Not as bad as I thought. What's your opinion?

I never said that this SHOW was mindless drivel, it was a first impression. I thought it would be like Who wants to marry a millionare. Apparently it isn't, the crappy people are hilarious and the good people actually have talent.
 
My mistake. IMHO, TV in general constitutes an embodyment of mindless drivel. I find not even owning one allows for much healthier forms of recreation / entertainment. That's just my experience however, the majority's is sure to differ. 🙂

I was just watching it cause of the Red Sox rain delay and actually got a few good laughs from some of the real lousy contestants. I don't think I'll be watching the show on a regular basis, though I've seen much worst on television lately .

I'm just in shock at how many people actually go and make complete fools of themselves... Then can't understand why they suck...
 
What we need is TV that constantly humiliates, puts down and excoriates people. It would be great. We who already feel like sh!t could watch others be made to feel worce than us. It would give us a chance to laugh at people 24 seven and feel sooooo much better. I mean, what would life be if we couldn't make people feel smaller than us. That's the most important function we serve.
 
The English guys name is "Simon Cowel". I'm not so sure of the surname but definatley the Simon though.

He puts people down but hey who likes a nice guy on tv??? NO ONE!

Quite funny also the British press were ripping it out of him calling him Nasty Simon and other takes on his trousers. I read that he has wears his trousers really high. The UK one I didn't bother to watch much.

this is one of the worst, funniest shows i have ever seen. I cannot believe some of those people! YIKES!

I thought towards the end of the show they were getting more lenient and advancing people who probably shouldn't have made it. In the beginning though, that Simon guy was tearing almost everyone a new one. Probably due to editing.

In reality though I think most future popstars get at least some background music to audition to. I can't imagine a Britney Spears winning a competition like this. The image is definitely the most important asset, and they can fix the vocals in post-production.

That's such a bunch of crap. Sure, there are garbage shows... but there is some very excellent programming on, also.
