I think with the way the voting went this year though Fox is going to lose viewership next season. Alot of the people who actually watch AI to see the talent are getting sick of the public making stupid choices based on race, Simon's negative comments or anything else.
Oh please, are you riding the race card too?

Just because someone doesn't get enough votes, doesn't mean people are discriminating a specific race. Simon has had a significant influence in how the voting turns out but how long has JPL and John Stevens lasted even though Simon has had his say about them? The voters obviously have a favorite in the competition and they're sticking to him/her regardless of the quality of performance. Talent eventually wins in the end and I admit that what happened to LaToya was tragic but to say people aren't voting for certain someone because of race is absurd. If I want to make a completely irrational statement, I can say America is sexist because the top 4 were all female. Oh boo hoo ..

Exactly. Race doesn't have anything to do with it -- if it did, the final four would be JPL, John Stevens, Diana and Matt Rogers.

Don't give me the playing the Race card garbage I am just trying to rationalize why America is voting the way they are. And if you think there aren't some people out there that would never vote for a Black person, white person or anyone else out side their race, then you need a reality check. There are alot of people in this world who place votes based on race how the hell you think Dinkins became Mayor of NY.

The 2 best talents in the competition are both gone, Jennifer and Latoya.

You need to get your ears checked out if you think that Jennifer was one of the top two. Latoya is better than her, Fantasia is better than her, and Diana is better than her. Jennifer was in the second tier along with George and Jasmine. You can argue which of that second group deserved to get into the top four, but there's no way Jennifer was one of the finalists.

Actually you are the one who needs the ear check. All 3 judges have gone on record saying that the best voice in the competition was Jennifer. She didn't have the charisma of Latoya or Diana but her voice definately had a better range and was alot more powerful.

I would argue that point. She had a good range, but she oversang everything. It's debatable that her voice was the strongest of all of them (although for sheer power, I would give the nod to Diana), but a strong voice does not a great singer make. For sheer chops, I think Amy Adams would give anyone else in the competition a run for their money -- she just had the misfortune of being less attractively packaged.

And you think those votes are significant enough to sway the outcome of the show? Racism will always be around as long as we exist.

As for Jennifer Hudson, she was neither consistent nor great. I think YOU need an ear check because the judges have said a lot of great things about everyone. Simon even said JPL was the dark horse to win it all this year. The judges did not consistently give Jennifer high marks in her performances. She sang and often, she would over sing .. and even those not in the industry could tell this.

For Amy Adams, I honestly think that Simon's "Jay Leno" comment destroyed her chances of moving on. I say this because Simon once made a comment about LaToya's hair looking like a cat and she ended up in the bottom 3. I know it's strange but maybe the voters are turned off by these comments made by Simon.

you are wise. i saw jen hudson perform live at ryan seacrest's talk show after she was booted, and you could probably hear her for miles. oversang, yelled and oversang some more. when she tones it down it doesn't sound right. listen to diana sing slower songs - it doesn't sound right. but when she sings upbeat songs that she gets to let loose on, she sounds so much better.

In the beginning she definately did over sing and I didn't like her at all. But week after week she got better and in the weeks right before she was voted off she was the best in the competition. During this time not one of the judges ever had anything bad to say about her. Even Simon was saying how much she has improved and that Latoya and the Chipmunk, I mean Fantasia should watch out. Would she have kept getting better? No one knows but at the time she left she was definately in the top 3 based on talent. Of course she wasn't the greatest looker and had that annoying eye's bulging out of her head thing.

Exactly. That shows the limitations of the show in that you only get one or two songs a week -- overblown songs are good in moderation, but sitting through a whole album of something that plays specifically to Diana (or Jennifer Hudson)'s strengths would be painful (as would one that mixed it up with slower songs and ballads just to even out the tone).

Edit: Just wanted to add that I realize that AI isn't really in the business of making great albums-as-a-whole anyway. 😉

Maybe so but there's one less viewer here after last night. In fact there's more than just me. My roommate will not be watching and my good friend and his wife are no longer going to tune in either. What's the point of a singing competition when the best singer doesn't win? I tune in to listen to listen to good singers and IMO they lost the best one last night. The judges continue to blame "america" but I blame the system. It sucks. It's failed in the past and it will continue to fail until it's changed. Get a clue Fox...

Sad but 100% on target. Not saying it was the deciding factor in LaToya getting voted off (I blame the system) but there are people of all races who would not vote for those out of their race.

Latoya got voted off b/c she comes across as too confident (almost cocky) and boring. That's the reason she lost, THAT'S IT PEOPLE. People want to know the person they are voting for and like them. There is no doubt that Latoya is the best singer but as Simon (I think) mentioned, we still don't know anything about her really, othere than the fact that she can sing very good. Fantasia is quirky and some people really like her energy and attitude. Diana is viewed as the fun loving little girl. Jasmine is the best looking and has the girl next door thing going where people like her for her insecurities and want to help her out b/c she is trying hard.

Latoya's comments when she said, "I'm not nervous, we are all winners and will all have good careers" was the final straw. She basically came across as saying, "I don't care if I win, I'm good enough to get a contract anyway so who cares about this competition". I'm pretty sure the voters and FOX didn't appreciate that comment.

I'm sick of hearing the "boring" excuse used for LaToya being (apparently) unpopular. Stop parroting Simon. Anyway, John Stevens was *by far* the most boring as well as the worst singer of the entire series. He should've been voted off as soon as he was exposed as the one trick pony he was and he lasted how long? Being boring had nothing to do with it.

And I still don't understand how people found LaToya's comments cocky. If she said "I'm not nervous, I know I'm a winner and I know I'll have a good career", that would be cockyness. And given the competition she has the talent to say something like that because none of them have anywhere near the voice and talent she has. Anyway, I think too much is being focused on the person/personality instead of the vocal talent. You people who want to "know the person" are the reason this show now sucks. Enjoy listening to "hottie" Jasmine and "different" Fantasia... :disgust:
