IOC WON'T ALLOW WTC AMERICAN FLAG TO FLY AT OLYMPICS

The INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE has decided that the American flag that was found in the rubble of the World Trade Center and flew at the Super Bowl cannot be represented at Friday's Winter Olympics opening ceremonies in Salt Lake City.

The news that the flag could not be used by the American delegation broke Tuesday on the Sean Hannity Show when New Jersey Port Authority officer Curt Killinger said that the IOC called earlier in the day to say that the flag was "too political".

The flag was set to head to Salt Lake City today.

nothing you can do about it, so calm down.

I don't know what the bid deal with. Both with the IOC denying the request and with people wanting the flag there in the first place...

it may only be a flag, but it is symbolic. if it is only a flag, they would let us fly the WTC flag.

No its not just a flag. Its a symbol of freedom and this particular flag is special to many people for where it was foud and what it represents.

I'd like to see your reaction if it was your country's flag that was banned at an olympics in YOUR country that stood as a symbol for 3000 of your dead coutrymen.

I don't think its right that we can't fly OUR flag in OUR country. It is sovereign US territory after all.

the Olympics are supposed to NOT have any political associations. so a regular flag should do. i don't see the need to display that particular flag.

My reaction would be "wow, a piece of cloth isn't here... "
I am not downplaying the disaster or whatever you care to twist my words into this time, it is just silly.

I can forsee you trying to have the last word in this arguement with the intrusion of an insane amount of graphical smilies to accentuate your message, so I choose to sit this one out.
By the way, when you quote my message, like I know you will, try to be at least halfway intelligent with your remark.

Well send the flag on and fly it. What are they going to do, cancel the opening ceremonies?

Super Bowl = American event
Olympics = International event, regardless of which country is hosting it

I know it doesn't always translate in reality, but the Olympics are supposed to be objective and represent each country equally.

Then explain to us all here why flying that flag is a political and not a patriotic statement?

Back up your BS!

No, you are just downplaying the patriotic passion Americans have for their country.

No smiles here. Your ignorance of American pride and your callus reaction to a symbol of the disaster shows your lack of feeling to our situation.

The olympics are NOT about America. It's international, it shouldn't be associated with any one country, but with the international community.

And to answer your question, then EVERY country should be able to fly a "unique" flag

Then I suppose in reallity, no country should be allowed to fly their flag! It should be all about amatuer indiviual accomplishment!
