Original from Starz network. 8 episodes. Starts April 30, 2017.

"The central premise of the novel is that gods and mythological creatures exist because people believe in them (a type of thoughtform). Immigrants to the United States brought with them spirits and gods.

The power of these mythological beings has diminished as people's beliefs wane.
New gods have arisen, reflecting America's obsessions with media, celebrity, technology, and drugs, among other things."

Basically, a war looming between the Old Gods (ie: Odin, Jesus?) and the new American Gods who are manifestations of modern life (ie: God of the Internet, Goddess of media/TV, etc)

Looking forward to this show. Watched the previews, could be quite good. I hope so any way. Looks like it might have a "Constantine" feel to it.

I think this thread will need a "no book spoilers" rule when the show airs.

1st episode is out.
the gore is so over the top it's laughable. :(

i like the story so far tho

I've become so jaded towards it I didn't really notice the amount of 'gore'. It didn't strike me as much let alone over the top. Makes me wonder what else I'm jaded towards in my old age..

I did want to like the episode more than I did. I thought it was too artsy for my liking. The music was the thing that really bothered me. It was bad enough it felt very decompressed, when they added the music choices, it make the scenes feel even longer.

what the F is a Mr World?!

I understand people worshipping internet/tech and media (tv/film).
but who worships the world?!

also, why does Internet fall under media??

think the same thing re: net vs media. internet should be way above it - unless age comes into it and media has fewer "worshippers" but is stronger (for now) due to having had (and continues to have) them for longer?

re mr world there is an answer I won't post (spoiler) but look up the chars on the books wiki

1st episode was pretty sweet.

But it's Neil Gaiman so it's going to be awesome.

I really liked the flashbacks concerning the ex as well as the parts about her, ahem, 'current condition.' It was an interesting take on the
zombie
theme.

Which part of Vulcan made no sense?

Also, am I the only one annoyed by the music that overpowers most of the scenes? Maybe my setup's sound is off, but man, the trumpet crap is really annoying to me.

why did vulcan...
...betray odin by telling the new gods they were at his place?
especially after Vulcan said he was going to help him, go w/him to Wisconsin, and made him a god blade.
or was that just a ruse and that Vulcan was working for the new gods the whole time?

hm.. 'they' gave him a gun.
they being the new gods?

So I'm really enjoying this show but I'm a bit concerned that we are never going to move the story forward. We recently found out that the show was renewed for a second season which probably means we are not going to get to Wisconsin this season. So, are we just going to roam around America meeting old gods, being chased by new gods who never quite manage to do anything about Mr. Wednesday and Sailor Shadow Moon, and having random shit happen until the show gets canceled? That will get really old fast.

I got the impression that Vulcan took the deal that the NGs offered Wednesday last episode, which is how he ended up in guns rather than the volcano. I also think that Wednesday knew it from the moment they got there and planned on doing Vulcan like he did. I'm pretty sure Vulcan made the blade to stall until the NGs got there.
