So here's the skinny. I get my Amex Blue statement from last month and it has a large charge on it from Glen-L Marine in California which I definitely did not make. I send Amex a certified letter saying that I'm disputing it. They send me a letter saying that they suspended the charge, are investigating it, and that they'll keep me updated. All is good. Today I get my this month's statement and a letter from Amex. My statement shows that the charge has been unsuspended. The letter I get says that Glen-L Marine provided proof of the transaction, so I'm going to be charged for it. Attached to the letter is six pieces of paper that Glen-L furnished for Amex to prove their side. The papers don't prove a damn thing! Here are the papers and what's on them:

1- Initial letter from Amex to Glen-L saying that I was disputing the charge. Glen-L states that they are disputing my claim.
2- Two page confirmation email from Glen-L to the REAL buyer. Gives a rundown of all things ordered. At the end of it is my name, followed by a Romanian address, a foreign phone number, an email address that isn't mine, my correct CC number, and the WRONG expiration date for the card!
3- A hard-copy of the order with pricing on it.
4- A copy of some sort of a shipping label to send the goods to Romania.
5- Copy of a different confirmation email from Glen-L to the real buyer.

Basically, the only think linking me to this is my name and credit card number - i guess that means I did it

Boy am I pissed off now. I'm pissed off at Amex because they accepted this pitiful "evidence" that I made the charges, and I'm pissed off at Glen-L because they started the whole mess by not even checking for the cards correct expiration date or ship-to address.

So I call Amex and they say they'll open it back up for dispute again. So now I have to wait through the whole process again.

*plop*

<< That was another gray hair poking through. >>

EDIT: So I got around to looking at my current statement, and guess what? Yup, another erroneous charge! This one is for $30 from fotki.com. Sheesh - do you think I should cancel the card? It's obviously in some underground list somewhere...

If they knew anything, the second they saw a Romanian address red flags should have been going off left and right.

Believe it or not, I've had an Amex card since 1997 and they've always treated me tremendously. I've disputed numerous charges without a hitch.

I'd worry more about someone having my CC# than having to dispute the charges! :Q

My parents have had good experiences with threatening to or actually closing the account. It seems to get them a little more riled up.

Same here except I don't have a choice since BOFA is the only bank which offers the Alaska Airlines VISA cc. They suspended my cc TWICE, once for a very stupid lame ass reason and the second time because I had paid my VoiceStream Wireless cell and QWest landline phone charges using my cc (to rack up the free miles). They said there's a lot of telecom fraud going around, I let them go easy on that one after I made it VERY clear that all VoiceStream/QWest charges WILL be approved and my card will NOT be suspended because they're idiots. No problems since then but I know it will happen again, it's only a matter of time.

If it's your BOFA CC not a debit card, you should switch to another cc like CitiBank who usually suspends cc for legit reasons.

They have suspended my account 4 times since i got over here a little over a week ago. Evertime i use my card, it works. Then the next time it gets denied. Everytime we call, they say that there is no notation of me being in Holland and that they will add it so it wont happen again. Whatta crock of SH!T.

ask them to issuse you a new card due to fraud.. they will suspend that account and do so..

legally they are to do it.. you have a clear case of fraud here.

They should have suspended that card immediately anyway. As soon as you get one fraudulent charge, get a new card ASAP. It's common sense.

VERY few places over here in Holland take CC's. Almost ALL take debit cards.

I've been using the GM master card(5% off purchase of GM product) for the last few years and they have caught about 3 fradulent purchases on the day it happens and put a hold on account number, gave me a ring, and issued me a new number without me lifting a finger. Too bad that they're cancelling the 5% off for people with employee discounts because I'll be looking for a new card when they do.
