Rule of law is to Fascism as pre-emergence is to weeds.
Now is the time of the lawn mower.

Bumping this because I think Squishy was right after all.

Just 5 months later.. the MAGA's are openly praising Hitler and saying some people are more American than others.

What used to take KKK capes and hoods to be said is now openly accepted and normalized.

Denaturalizations and deporations of citizens are okayed and proceeding..

200% tax on medications for elderly to help them being "processed to aging out fully" is a normal viewpoint supported by the President...

Dems seem more scared of socialists than MAGA killing them..

I don't think America survives MAGA.. I mean there is no opposition with a spine to push back at all.. MAGA are taking miles and miles and no rule of law can stop them.
Dang, you sound like me circa 2023!

I'm kinda just at the acceptance phase at this point. Enjoy time with your family/friends while you can. Life is fleeting.

One thing is to see reality clearly and for what it is, it means that you know where the fight is. To be in or out of the fight no matter the stage is 100% a choice.

My opinion is that the idea that American democracy is over is likely more opinion than fact. American style democracy is good for the rich and I don't think they want it completely eliminated, just the part where they are held to paying their fair share. They are not going to like paying bribes over taxes for permission to do business. Corporations that are willing to squeeze pennies at the cost of misery for millions shouldn't be too squeamish about getting rid of one President, I would think.

Yea that would be great the machine was rational like that. Its not.
Where does wealth come from? Its not bags of money, it's from the wonderous inventions machinery and culture that modern culture provides.
So when you gut education
You gut the culture
And convert the middle class into slaves going paycheck to paycheck
Then who is going to invent and produce and create all that stuff that money is going to buy?

Nope. The machine is NOT thinking that far ahead.

I can also attest that there is not one single news outlet in Europe supporting conservative or right-wing views.

Huh? Can't speak for the rest of Europe but pretty much _every_ news outlet in the UK supports conservative or right-wing views. There are precious few media outlets that _aren't_ firmly right-wing.

GBNews? Talk TV? LBC? The Telegraph, The Daily Mail, The Express, The Sun...all pretty much openly supportive of Farage and Reform (LBC has a few liberals on its roster, but it's mostly conservative presenters - and almost every one of them is privately educated).

Most of the plutocrat-owned media is absolutely _ferociously_ right-wing, barely bothering with a pretence at being anything other than propaganda.

The Times, the BBC, The FT, are a bit more centre-right, but really the only non-right-wing major media outlet is The Guardian, which is centre-left or liberal.

The machine is millions of unconscious people whose behavior is programmed. It’s not a process governed by thought but by unconscious motivation like the avoidance of any negative feelings. If you know yourself you should know that there is no lie one can’t tell oneself to justify preserving anything that is self flattering and it’s money we measure people’s worth by.

SCOTUS declared the President as above the law by granting him immunity.
SCOTUS just now declared Congress's direction of government agencies as... advisory, and the President can do whatever the hell he wants to them.
It is officially HIS Government, not the people. Not Congress. SCOTUS declared Congressional law as beneath the President.
And that was an 8-1 vote? Only Jackson dissented. They really meant it.

We have a god damn inhumane concentration camp in Florida, that was celebrated.
We have active military on the streets.
And a personal gestapo with more resources than Russia's military.

The only way your words make sense, is that we are still using words.
At this rate, with these actions, that won't last for very long.

Not to take anything away from what you said here, but look on the bright side.

I leave that up to you as an optional exercise as I have observed as a, what?, general psychological mechanical or reflexive principle that people who view life through fear tinged lenses, when directly challenged with countervailing facts, will argue vehemently against them out of stubborn insistence which is really related to childhood heartbreak and a fear of mending. We have all been broken and do not want to experience any joy that can be broken again.

Yes, one of my top 3 beliefs is that man can rationalize just about anything to be the hero in his own story.. Its the ego. I like a quote by Arnold Schwarzenegger The Scribe, on the meaning of life: Be useful and be of service. Translation: Its not about you doink.

Indeed. May I ask you though to consider why we are that way? Why do we have an ego. What purpose does it serve, why are some profoundly self centered and others more considerate of others. You know where I am going with this.

But what you may not think so much about as my grand unification of human existence, actually not original to me at all though, for the fun of it, egotistically put, is that I believe that our egos saved our lives, that had we not become egotistical we would not have survived being humiliated and guilt-tripped as children.

I believe that the ego once was a life saver, a bold face put on as a presence, like the color changing camouflage of a chameleon. It was a way to make ourselves, invisible, via conformity like a mole that never sticks its head out of its hole and thus never gets whacked.

It is only now in adulthood that this mechanism becomes a negative, but because of the vital function that it once performed, it is almost impossible to get rid of. To lose, it would be to expose ourselves to immense fear, feeling the truth that it was there to deny.

It is their belief that they argued a technicality here, and that the issue will be revisited later in a more direct fashion.
I mean... if the rule of law did not exist, their Court would serve no purpose. So I sort of understand the notion of them still going through the motions.
Still... Jackson found cause to dissent and I certainly match her view more than the others.

Reading posts about young boys cheering for Lex Luthor during screenings of the new Superman movie and older moviegoers thinking “WTF??” is just typical of the current moment in America’s decline.

They who will suffer the most. But also they who might actually fight for their freedom.

Some people have built their entire personalities around being shit posters, contrarians, reactionary, and nihilists. In their eyes, to care about things is cringe.

Of course. If there were anything good in life it would be profoundly upsetting. Imagine what it would be like to feel you were totally worthless, invest your life in that feeling, and one day wake up to the fact that all along you were unaware you were actually a god.

Upsetting is when we grow up and learn Superman is actually Homelander.
Those kids were just ahead of the curve.

I haven't watched the Superman movies since the 80s. Is Luthor a billionaire or something? That would explain it with 30% of our society's worship of the rich.
