United States or "the US".

Unless you are going to a country where they chop off heads.

Exactly. LOL @ the pussies who lie about being Canadian.

*back of hand to forehead*
"Oh I'm so ashamed..."
*mock faint*

What would be hilarious is if an American claimed they were from Canada and were then asked who the Canadian Prime Minister is. I'd guess better than 90% of Americans would not know.

Probably 50% don't know what the capital of Canada is.
Canada has a Prime Minister and a capital? When the hell did that happen? I though it was just a block of ice with decent hockey teams and loons.

It's a trick question! Canada's capital moves around depending on where the tank is!

When people ask where your from it's almost universally what country. There's only one country with america in it... not ambigous at all.

Tangent: Coming back to the USA, some jerk in a glass booth had to ask me what country I was coming from, and I said "London, England" just to be specific, and he got all smart with me and said "You do realize London isn't a country, right?".

It took a LOT of effort on my part to refrain from verbally attacking him.

Nevertheless, I'm sure there is a clause in the Patriot Act that would consider me a terrorist if I said anything mean to the petty asshole who felt he could cop an attitude just because he was safe behind a glass booth with a security camera in my face.

Edit: Forgot to mention the irony in the fact that I was coming back from an HONORS trip for college, and I probably had 2x the IQ of that idiot. Hahaha. I really like to hold a grudge. 🙂

GOD BLESS THE USA. /end sarcasm.

Back on topic: I would never admit I was American to anyone in a foreign country.

At least 2x. Maybe more like 6x.

The west.

If they ask where in the west I would respond "Canada".

I am ashamed of our politcal system / foreign policies to the point I wouldn't want them to know where I really lived. As an individual we are often judged by how our government acts since they are the face the world sees.

Seriously? You should be ashamed that you'd lie about the country you're from.

I've traveled to different countries at least 3 times since 2000 and never had someone treat me in a negative manner after learning I was from the US. Don't insult them by assuming that they can't distinguish between a citizen of the country and its government.

eff ewe

hyperbole

why would i answer either? i guess "america" technically somewhat fits. are you forgetting the internet reaches past international boundaries?

San Diego, California. If someone asks you where you're from they'd probably like a little more detail than just the US or America. It's like saying you're from the Western Hemisphere...could you be a little more vague?

seriously though, most of that hate comes cause we sik wit it. why everybody gotta try pull down the ones at the top?

Because we elected an idiot as president who took us from being well respected in the world community to a bunch of thugs who don't give a shit about anyone but themselves in only 7 years?

BTW-Don't count on us being the ones at the top forever...in fact, there are many countries that beat us at a number of things. We aren't all that...not even close.

Don't kid yourself, there are MANY flaws.

I say the states.

And more times than not, they know where you are from as soon as you open your mouth(that is if your german is as bad as mine).

"United States of America". This is more historically accurate IMHO. Besides, it does tend to convey that we aren't as homogeneous as would seem if you just say "America".
