You can find evil stuff anywhere throughout history and any country/religion if this is what you are focused on during a debate, true. But the turn the other cheek stuff does not make the wheels of civilization turn. It is more of a excuse to forget the big picture.

That said I do not endorse a wholly irreligious society as far as basic philosophy, I think fellowship and caring for your fellow man for a lot of people is not something they find within their best short term interests thus falls to the wayside, if you know of a better plan without having to brainwash/lie/fear/guilt people the world could use it. The sooner the better.

Problem is convincing people to give a shit without having to do any actual work. Humans are generally pretty selfish as a whole when it does not directly benefit us. This is the big paradox of our species that will take many generations to adapt to imo.

But damnit, we made it this far, there are still plenty of caring people not giving up anytime soon.

I do think that there are likely areas of doctrine which at the edges do shape a society. But largely, religion is subservient to earthly needs I believe. So while America is not great because of religion, that also means that religion is not to blame for the ills of America either.

Religion if this country was running correctly should have 0% to do with the ills of this country. Problem is religion is a human construct and basically a political entity with some funny guys with hats running things with some metaphysical musings here and there to keep people united under the cause.

Getting religion out of politics is a big part of getting this place cleaned up, but then the religious doctrine that is the problem is not all religion, money is our main god. When you get the holy trinity of money/politics/religion together you generally get a fascist shithole. Which is why so many people are concerned. Religion is a very easy to use tool to divide people, the name of the game nowadays is dividing the working people against one another so we can be robbed blind by the wealth addicted ones who have the power currently.
