I wasn't actually talking about the quality of the alcohol I was talking about the people's capacity to drink it :) I've enjoyed some great ales in the US

Well when it comes to alcohol capabilities.. I'm not a normal American... I played rugby..

both the US and the UK have our fair share of flaws... both historically and presently. Did not mean to insult you or your country.

Blind patriotic fervor seems to be prevalent here in this forum from both the British citizens and the American. It was not my intention to start an argument between the two. Both countries have committed heinous atrocities in the past but my concern is that they are still happening now. Our politicians are still of the same mindset they were hundreds of years ago, they still have the same goals and aspirations, they use military action with the support of their citizens to achieve them.
(The men who fight in these conflict`s whether they be a taliban suicide bomber or a marine are brave individuals and whatever side of the fence your on a man`s death is to be regretted).

America could be such a great country, it`s economic strength could, if it decided to use it, have a much greater effect on the various conflicts around the world than it`s military might ever could. It could become a world leader in trying to eradicate poverty and suffering of millions of people by using it`s economic power and influence but it decides not to.

This is an open and shut case of playing armchair quarterback... It's very very easy to point at our leaders and criticize their policies and efforts. It's quite another thing to sit in their shoes. I promise you, if you were in their shoes you would fuck it up equally badly. It's not as simple as helping the poor peoples of the world... because you first have to decide WHICH poor peoples of the world... Indians or Pakistanis? Israelis or Palestinians? Shiites or Sunnis? the list goes on and on and on. In true international politics many relationships are zero-sum games, which means the more you help one party the more you hurt the other. THIS is where a lot of our negative influence comes from. The only alternative is to not help anyone at all... but then of course you're withdrawing all positive influence from the world... and that too will create enemies and suffering.

And besides, American leaders first obligation is not to bring our economy to bear for the world, it's to bring our economy to bear for America.
