i bought a zalman for my new HTPC and it doesn't fit because it is soo damn big! what a waste fo $50 bucks. oh well. good thing i still have the stock intel one. btw this thing is gianormous so be warned before you buy one make sure you have the room of a CD + .5" around your CPU, i sh!t you not its that big!

I havent built a pc in like 5 years so this thing is taking me forever to put together, a lot of stuff has changed but i guess its still essentially the same, i should be done tonight sometime.

Great for quiet cooling though. I'm trying to talk myself into making the effort to replace the stock HSF in my P4 3.2, but removing the motherboard from the case and then getting the HSF off without damaging the CPU just sounds like too much work.

I got owned like that a lil while ago. I bought a $50 thermalright heatsink and it didn't fit on the motherboard. I had to buy a new motherboard.

With so much surface area already why not just shave some off in the right places?

im not sure that would kepp the integrity of the cooler, the stock intel one is pretty good too just a little loud compared to the zalman.

Depends on where the cuts need to be made... the Zalmans are usually pretty solid with the fins being well attached to the base... if its just the top part of the fins getting in the way you should be fine cutting some parts off...

Maybe, but we're both at the mercy of our expensive heatsinks.
