Jesus christ, all this time I thought the old phrase "I buy them for the articles" was joke. Checking out a few of the mags from the 70's and 80's and I'm left with the question "where's the pr0n?". Never really was a Playboy kind of guy, now that I see what all the fuss was about back then (I remember the debates were raging) I have to ask "really!? what was all the fuss about"? 150 pages of ads and articles with 3-4 pages of some half-clothed voyeur shots? Thank you Internet for changing the world!

I don't like "Spintel" much esp. the few years they charged 1k for a cpu. they milked me when they had the chance. but still I think their current line of products speaks for themselves.

You are aware of the pricing structure AMD had in place for years and years with their top-priced Athlons (K7) and subsequent X2's (K8)?

Intel did not invent the $1k desktop CPU. Nor did AMD require anyone to pay $1k for their chips.

Consumers buy what they want, not what they need. We don't need computers, we want them. And some of us want the fastest we can buy, at any price. For that consumer, both Intel and AMD have taken turns in giving us exactly what we wanted.

Sure maybe we used the argument that we needed that $1k cpu when we convinced our spouses to let us buy them, but we all know we really only wanted the chip.

Society existed and operated just fine without the assistance of the personal computer and internet. There is no need for the personal home computer to contain a $1k cpu.

after high def hardcore pornography on the internet, which encompasses any type of deviancy you might have, a tasteful nude here in there is really not all that pornographic.

It's a lie. About 10 years ago me and my friends found a box of playboys from the mid 1980s and they were all ads and other bs nobody wants. I swear there were more cartoons than actual porn.

Hmm, it sounds like you might be remembering the guy who posted ~2 years ago that he was going to give newegg ~$1,700 for a QX6700, plus ~$500 for one of those awesome new nVidia motherboards, and ~$500 for 4x1GB of RAM, along with ~$1,000 worth of cooling for the processor. I did my best to talk him into waiting a month or two, but he said that he'd make enough money by upgrading his system to completely pay for it in that amount of time. IIRC, he said he used some type of software that predicted what the stock market would do in the future, from what it had done in the past. It might have been called something like Metatrader, or something similar. I wonder what ever happened to that guy?

You pay attention too damn well ;) Stop that!

In my defense (both past and present) my silly spendy rig was for my personal business and was intended to do as you say whereas my post above (and much of my non-business posts on the forums these days) are intended to be representative of a desktop consumer using their PC for for home use.

But I migrated away from the single uber rig and now use the five quads (each much cheaper builds) to farm out the processing. So I look to my desktop rig (head node) with much lower compute powerhouse needs. I'd put an SSD in this thing before I upgrade to Nehalem or beyond.

The QX6700 (I run at stock now no less!) is plenty powerful for my needs today. Thanks crappy stock market

Here is a good one... :D

TALK TO ME ABOUT ANTITRUST AND MONOPOLISTIC ABUSE

Go buy it; don't waste my time. Unless you want to talk about an7i7rus7, and how it has hurt you too. And think about how spintel steals AMD'S innovative ideas and uses them to screw you in the marketplace. Go ahead; support that.

They need more (morons like you) to ignore what's really happening. The great monopoly is based on people being seduced - and they can't stand that thought so they deny it.

Then spintel babbles some more neuro-linguistic programmming at the idiot vulnerable masses and everybody glazes over and supports that too.

But the antitrust focuses on coercion and threats and forcing suppliers to buy and promote spintel exclusively. Gangstah boys.

I support what I know is right. spintel has a legaleez team that's above the law and dictates what's right. When does capitalism become nazi?

The cheats who do those benchmarks could show a 486 beating the stimulus of your adolescent chest beating. Typically they do all kinds of slight of hand tricks to make spintel look good, and give your empty head something to be infatuated with. I am interested in none of it. But you dance on it until you know better.

I know what I am talking about, and what I am interested in. It has nothing to do with spintel's latest scam - that's nothing new, more of the same. Lies. Monopoly isn't enough. They still have to lie. And pay most of the internet to cover it up.

They SAY it has improved VM, SAY it has improved Power Efficiency, etc. cos that's what AMD has had for a long time. They SAY it to try to impress AMD's customers. They SAY it is so, and they show measurements which leave out half the truth. SAY it has improved the 200W TDP issue - sure, they just measure it differently. SAY it has improved - how about their TLB bug - o that doesn't affect anything. Did they compile all the benches - o yeh. Did they precache everything on the first run, and measure the second run? Did they test 100 times and take the 1 best result - yep. Did they cripple the config and bolox the code for the AMD rigs? Of course. Did they overclock it and underclock the competitor? Did they use defective mem on the other? A 486 can be made to look good. So can Wannabe, their supposed video. And so on. And so on. And so on. They SAY it has improved.............

In real world computing, people are disappointed with spintel, and love AMD. Now why is that? Why do people describe AMD as a smooth computing experience and describe the supposedly great spintel c2-q-or-d as stall, hesitate, jerky - that's what owners of both say. BenchMarketing says otherwise - you believe what you like.

TALK TO ME ABOUT ANTITRUST AND MONOPOLISTIC ABUSE

To you, these CRIMES are like parking tickets. :!:

YMF you are just a baby at this game. I am truly impressed that you can read a pretty chart; but sadly, you have little of yourself to reveal - other than a possible general lack of moral fabric; is this true? What do YOU know? What have YOU seen? Support what you like. Create your world, and try to make smart choices, and try to work in collaboration with others. Any moron can jump on the drunken bandwagon. Dat all ya gots?

If everyone supported a boycott of spintel, what would you support?

Thats a hilarious rant. The poster really needs to get drunk, laid or both.

I also thought it was funny that if you type "amdzone forum" into google you get this (third search result down):

Good advertisement for Anantech and a bad one for amdzone.

Edit: I thought I would have a look on their forum for a laugh. I came across this:
http://www.amdzone.com/phpbb3/...opic.php?f=52&t=136215

btw this was the thread that the above quote posted by Leon came from. The verbal abuse from ZootyGray is appalling. Are the mods on Amdzone asleep?

Holy cow reading their forums makes my brains hurt. Did they think anand (the threads I read seemed to single this site out a lot) was under intel's thumb when the athlon 64 was king? They're like the creationists that when confronted with the fossil record simply say the devil must have done it : )

On my god AyashiKaibutsu (****makes a cross with his fingers****) you own an Intel CPU.

How dare you purchase a product manufactured by the Devil using the bones of nubile virgins.

You get the picture. Essentially that is how the fanatical element of Amdzone react if you mention the five letter I word.

They are so blinded by their own fanaticism to realise that although Intel may have unscrupulous business practices (I am not stating that they do or don't) they are essentially a company making money for their shareholders - exactly the same as AMD and ATI are. It's just that some of the AMDzone members don't seem to realise this.

Oh yeah, why haven't I thought of that!

I just hate how he claims to be Canadian and then goes on making shame.
