AMDXP1800+ Retail and ECS MB at Fry's for $64.99

Fry's has an AMXP1800+ retail and an ECS motherboard at Fry's for $64.99. Don't know which motherboard it is, except that it is not the K7S5A Pro. I think it's a motherboard based on the Via KT333 chipset... I do know that it requries DDR memory.

According to MyOC Ads: Valid Wednesday 10/1 to Thursday 10/2...

Boxed Athlon XP 1800+ and ECS K7VTA3 Motherboard with 10/100 networking and USB 2.0.

According to ECS website, there are two versions (v6 and v8) => different chipsets...
DDR333 up to 2GB.

K7VTA3 V6

K7VTA3 V8

Also available: 2.66GHz Pentium 4 (Bare CPU) with ECS L4VXA2 Motherboard.

L4VXA2

Anyone has opinions on these boards?

In the last few weeks that Fry's has had this xp/mb deals, most motherboards if not all are "returned items" with the infamous white stickers indicating that.

I think Fry's has pretty much ran out of their new stock on this ECS boards.. i'd wait and see what kind of alternative one's they will offer next.

Just last week at the Woodland Hills, Ca store i was trying to get the xp-1800/ECS combo for the same price of $64.99 and all they had what the returned MB's, and i insisted on getting a new one.. the CSR assured me that there was nothing wrong with the returned MBs.. i was like " well, you have here atleast 80+ returned boards here " so you are telling me that there's nothing wrong with all these 80 ???

She said, " im sorry.. i have to go help another customer.." when she was done with that.. she didnt bother to come back to me... hmmmmm .. maybe cause i was been to pushy... hehe 😛

I bought this back at $69.99 and how it prints on the reciept is $39.59 for the boxed cpu and $30.40 for the motherboard, so if you want just a cpu returning the motherboard is a no brainer, and what I am sure most if not all the motherboard returns are.

Can anyone else confirm this? If so, would someone be willing to do that for me (please PM me).

impossible, they do not allow returns of only partial bundle. its strictly enforced, so don't even imagine you can. the returns are from people who change their minds or just can't get stuff working.

This may be a stupid question, but is the 1800 xp a throughbred or palimino? Thanks!
Virtually all are Tbred "B" CPUs with very recent steppings.

I agree. You can't return just the motherboard. Actually look at your reciept and you'll see that it clearly says that it's part of a combo deal.

Are you sure about the partial return not being allowed, if so how do they handle the 15 day limit on cpu return when motherboard limit is 30 days?

I was thinking of waiting like 20 days, then take in the motherboard and say my son says it doesn't fit our case right. Why break the combo price into $39 cpu and $30 motherboard if it isn't to handle a split return?

after 14 days they wont let you return the combo, but you can exchange the mobo

I've done 2 of these recently (Irving, tx store) and in both cases they had a huge inventory of never-before-opened motherboards.

Both machines work flawlessly.

either $160 or 170

you're not really supposed to be able to return pieces of a combo, but I've already done that a few times, specifically to get the cpu at the discounted combo price. just have someone else bring back the mobo for you (that they "received as a gift") and have fry's credit back the mobo portion to the purchasing card.

Damn I wish there was a fry's around here. This combo would be great for a rig for my girlfriend. She just started back at college and I want to get her a new rig.

I went last week to get the XP2200 + ECS K7S5A deal advertised and they told me they no longer stock the K7S5A... so they were giving out the K7VTA3. I got one and it turns out to be V5.0.

http://www.ecsusa.com/products/k7vta3_5.html

though that info page says the southbridge is a VT8367 both the box and the manual say its a VT8235 and that site also claims it has a game port but mine does not.

oh and FYI the Fry's I went to was in El Segundo (CA).

Yep.. bought this a few weeks back.. CPU runs at 2ghz at about 38 degrees with stock fan on a7n8x dlx

hell of a deal 😉
