Boy, it sure did. There was something in a report or reports that came out today that caused it. I didn't get the details yet, but I haven't lost this much since the 9/11 crash.

People confuse good engineering with good business sense.

Buying AMD stock just because A64s are better than Prescott P4s is as stupid as buying any other stock just because you like the product or brand. The point of investing is to buy shares of companies that are well-run businesses.

99% of investors shouldn't be buying individual stocks anyway. Put your money into good mutual funds like Vanguard.com's VFINX S&P 500 fund and let it sit there for years. Growthalarity will ensue.

Hardly unexpected. AMD trading for around the same price as Intel? You just HAD to know that wasn't gonna last...

And this is followed by Intel's great earning reports and rosy statement for future quarters. Oh well, at least that news helped AMD's stock a bit.

I think it has to do more with market cap than per-share price.

it just has to do with AMD posting less than expected earnings, Intel posted good earnings, obviously its gonna drop like a rock when its overvalued.

yeah, price per share means nothing. It's all about market cap. Price per share X # of shares outstanding.

AMD Market Cap: 5,454,630,480
its a 5 billion dollar company, not bad...

Intel Market Cap: 14,520,420,000
14.5 billion dollar company, bigger....

Wal Mart Market Cap: 135,725,561,347
135 billion dollar company, HUGE.

Now, the size of a company doesn't have anything to do with what stock value, future stock prices, earnings, etc.... But saying AMD and Intel are the same just both stocks are around 20 bucks is not accurate.

 Did I say that, idiot?

If you knew anything about either stock, you would know that AMD typically trades at half of INTC's price, and that the stocks tend to trend together. Does that mean anything to geeks like you who poo-poo reality or like to brag about things you know little of, like market caps and P/E ratios? Of course not. But in the real world, with real money, perception IS reality.

Bingo. This stock was ridden to the top, nursed long enough to get the suckers in and the winners out, and then thrown over the edge. Don't worry, it'll come back. If it don't move, no one makes any money.

word of wisdom there. Tech stocks are too volatile for me.
