apoppin now seems to be questioning the integrity of Keysplayr. Is apoppin's plan to go after everyone? I certainly hope he has proof of all his allegations. I won't post all the usernames if you want you can go read the thread yourself.

posted by someone: You know what really makes me wonder is why was Keysplayr made a MOD at AnandTech? Are they nuts? Or are they in cahoots?

apoppin: i can cover that. That is in the outline

posted by someone: Please do. It never made any logical sense to me.

apoppin: Keys and i were the very first VC&G mods at AT&F. i was the "ATi guy" and Keys was brought in to mod ATF as the "Nvidia guy". To bring a balance to the forums was then forum administrator Derek Wilson's idea.

Keys became a Nvidia Focus Group member afterward - right about the same time Rollo was banned. The timing was incredible, wasn't it.

--------

At this point, is there any reason to keep this thread open? It's a big mud slinging event over there IMO, allegations flying all over the place. apoppin to me comes across as bitter, I don't see what he has to gain by all of this, he claims all he wants is transparency and for the viral marketing stuff to stop, but I can't help but wonder about his motives. I don't know what to think about what is being posted there, can anyone make some logical sense out of it?

That thread is just unbelievableD:
Appopin spreading unsubstantiated innuendo about a (non existent) AMD viral marketing campaign against him and poor widdle AlienBabyTech.:'(
His site and cronies are now relegated to the level of tech trash and should be given no further respect.

To me that thread is like a soap opera you've never seen before. You might of heard of a few of the characters because they are famous, but you don't really know the back stories. You don't know who has supposedly done what, whose "side" the players are on, their motivations.

In my view what is going on there is very unprofessional, you don't air the dirty laundry in a public forum like that unless you want to become a pariah and never have a working relationship with the respective vendors again. If you have a story to tell, shut yer yapper and write up a professional article. And be prepared for the fallout.

As for viral marketing, it is certainly nothing new. I personally think it's bad for the consumer, but it has been going for a very long time. Think about the traveling snake oil salesman, an anonymous "stranger" yells out, "that stuff cured me and my family!" and people start lining up cash in hand.

^^^ Million dollar question. The cynical answer is, he knew all about it but accepted it as par for the course because he had a good relationship with the respective vendors. Now that he's banished so to speak, out come the sour grapes.

I have read this thread and the postings at ABT. I reserve any judgement against this. I rarely post here and have been accused in PM. WRONGLY:eek:

This. All of this.

There are many kinds of snakeoil. There's the snakeoil of would-be viral marketing, and then there is the snakeoil of claims that there is viral marketing afoot.

Its all snakeoil of one grade and quality or another, and it would be reasonable to relegate all of it to the snakeoil file bin were it not for the fact that once upon a time long long ago there actually was something to the snakeoil at the time (Nvidia and Rollo).

I'm considering just closing out this thread though, if folks want to talk about the topic itself then I suppose they could got to ABT and talk about it there?

This is looking less and less like a major breaking outing of some viral marketing front and instead is looking more and more like a fishing expedition :\

Does anyone here really want the thread to remain open for the purpose of discussion the topic itself as linked in the OP?

I don't see a problem with closing this one, but I think it's weird that the other thread didn't receive the same treatment by the users here.

Then again I have no delusions that what I say carries any weight, however it's puts this community in a new light when two threads that are basically mirror images of each other receive totally different treatment based on which company is doing it.

/thread. The ABT article is little more than the rantings of someone who feels scorned.

It is one mans medium to express his opinion of what HE perceives as to be factual. IT is not proven. WHY now? WHAT changed? He kept quiet all this time because?

As others have said, and this has been the theme since the start, if there was any substance to this beyond a hissy fit from a snubbed "reviewer," it would have gone somewhere. Thanks IDC for keeping the forums clean.

You were right when you closed it the 1st time and it should have been left closed.

No the 2 threads are not alike.

The AMD focus group thread at ABT is a bizzare rant - talk about ip addresses matching from AT/ABT and other odd bits. The Nvidia focus group thread at Chiphell is about stealth marketers who got banned.

If this thread(Chiphell threads) and the Keysplayr thread about ABT both get deleted then the Nvidia focus group wins because it managed to take down a good thread (about Chiphell).

We don't believe he knows the IP addresses of any AT visitors, and was almost certainly bluffing. He's not a mod here and doesn't have that kind of access, meanwhile the idea that another mod has been leaking IP addresses is a very serious concern, and after looking into it we're sure that no one within the Mod Squad has been handing out IP addresses.

Yes, a good thread from China. Where anyone repeating the $300 price tag was automatically banned.

OK, you guys busted me. I'm a viral marketer. I haven't performed any viral marketing activities yet since I wanted to blend into these forums first. To put some distance between registering and the start of my viral marketing activities. Now that carefully laid out plan and been put to waste. I shall hang my head in shame.

The folks over at 3dfx aren't going to be happy once I tell them I've been discovered.
