Crazy you can get an 939 A64 for $60 now at MWAVE and X2 for $145 at Club IT. 99% of the people don't need more than that.
AMD mobos are also much cheaper. That's why A64's and X2's are hot. Cheap upgrades to aging Athlon or A64 or p3 or Aging P4 systems.
Conroe is for those that have to have the best just like getting a high priced X2 was over a half price 850 or even cheaper 805 back in the day.
The value proposition clearly sits in AMD's hands - has to when Intel is king or they would'nt sell any.

I thought all the Conroe chips (except the X6800) launch on August 7th?

The X6800 is supposed to be available on the day of launch. The lower model Conroes and Allendales are available on the 7th.

once again, that's at Microcenter. Quit spreading false sht

Same at NCIX:

Core 2 Duo launch will be this Thursday and with the exception of the X6800, everything will be preorders - official ship date is August 7th.

If you want to talk about Conroe, go to one of the other 1000 threads about it, I am sick of all the BS and rants. Yes, it may be good WHEN IT SHOWS UP, but until then knock it off please.

I thought that the prices on the X2 would be lower than this, I seem to remember price charts claiming that the X2 3800+ would be $149?

That's the OEM distributer price, the official AMD price is 152US, when prices normalize i expect online retail prices to fall to 150 or so, but only if supply is good.

X2 3800@mwave (just got 2 in myself, installing now) are $153.47 + shipping. So they are only making $4.47 each. With overhead, they might even be loosing money.

Amen, brother!

You do know that it was Conroe that incited these price changes in the first place. You will remember how AMD charged stratospheric prices on their Dual Cores, when all they had agains them were the Pentium D Series.
