AMD's hammer for socket a?

I currently have a socket a mobo for my athlon xp. Does anyone know if i will be able to use my current mobo for the hammers that will be coming out or willl i need to upgrade.
 
as was said above you will need a new board for the hammer

but... the hammer is still away off, the next one to be released (t-bred) and after that the (barton). both be compatable with current socketA boards
 
When is AMD going to get it...the socket architecture is supposed to change with each new chip. Just ask Intel...they'll back me up on this 😉

 
Nope. Sorry. Not unreasonable though considering Socket A will have spanned for 6 different cores (Spitfire, T-Bird, Palomino, Morgan, T-Bred and Appolasa) from 550MHz up to by the time it stops, 2GHz.

A new motherboard for the Hammer, but I think I'll give it a few months, let everyone else try out the new boards, and weed out the surprises. Some name brand Mobos were little dissapointing when DDR & Ghz+ technology made the corner. I've got one in one computer, that had I read all the reviews first, I would have opted for something different, won't slur anyones name, but it starts with an "A". I did opt differently for my second computer though, mucho stable, runs all day, and solved my problem with the other one. How? Gave it to my wife 😀..... Such is life.....
 
No, your Epox 8K7A mobo won't support a 64bit CPU like the hammer. AMd is already sampling their new chipset series for the hammer (8000 series). We should see the Hammer released, along with compatible mobos somewhere in Q4 2002.

Also if the T-breds come with a 333Mhz FSB (some rumors say they will) your board won't support even the T-breds. I feel that the socket-A has really served us well. It's truly a legend.

 
I think I will keep my current motherboard until the HAMMER is available. I wanna have some DIY 🙂

If things go according to AMD's roadmap, the CH (desktop version of the hammer) shall be available in Q4 2002. That means around Nov/Dec 2002

Where have you heard these rumors? All reports that I've seen and read say that t-bred is simply a die shrink. Socket A has been incredible though.
 
this thread is from february.. back then there was still speculation on what exactly the t-bred was 😀

but yeah the t-bred architecture is identical to the palomino, just a die shrink
