If I choose to get an A64 3000 now with a Neo2 will I be able to buy a dual core cpu later with the same motherboad?

Yes, the dual core chips will come out for Socket 939 and just need a BIOS update.

I would take any kind of support now with a grain of salt. No one has publicly tested in any of these chips in modern boards. There are likely to be "issues" cropping up, at the very least.

Appearantly there is something called Socket M2 on the horizon, but not for another year at least, so I wouldn't worry. And Yes, you'll be able to drop a dual-core into a 939 mobo (though, as another poster mentioned, there are sure to be major "issues").

Linkage proving this? (I don't keep up very well to all the news. When did they announce this?)

"AMD's dual core socket 939 processors were also running in a back room on ASUS' A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboards - without modification. Although we had known for some time that dual core would only require a BIOS update on AMD motherboards (at worst), the knowledge that off-the-shelf motherboards running AMD's newest gave us a further boost of confidence for the future. This is also in stark contrast to Anand's report that Intel dual-core will not run on current 915/925 chipset motherboards."
