I always tell myself that I'll buy an AMD CPU "next time," yet every time "next time" rolls around, I end up with Intel inside for some reason or another.
When my last system died late last spring (it was the P2/P3 motherboard that died, so that meant it was time to upgrade "the whole works" now), the best AMD systems weren't even coming close in typical benchmarks to the new 800 MHz hyper-threaded P4"C" systems with dual-channel DDR. The Intels were also running nice and cool compared to AMD's best, which (in my theoretical estimation) meant that I could run my fans at lower speeds (AKA noise levels) and still have a happy system.
None the less, I'm happy that AMD keeps competing, because it forces Intel to keep their prices fairly reasonable.
